2018 Le Carillon De L'angelus Blend from France
#152479 750 mL
2018 Le Carillon De L'angelus
95 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Wild-strawberry, blackberry and blueberry aromas with some spices and herbs. It’s full-bodied with a balance of firm yet elegant tannins. The savory mid-palate leads to a clean finale with serious length. Hard not to drink this now, but it needs four or five years to show its true excellence. Second wine of Angelus. Try after 2025.
94 Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
An excellent vintage at this St Emilion First Growth, but the main wine is nowhere near ready to approach. I suggest looking instead at the second wine, Le Carillon d'Angélus. Expect stewed spiced plums, raspbery and black cherry fleshy fruits, and a ton of smoked earth, liqourice and slate. Still young at three years old, this will deliver already with a good few hours in a carafe but there is no rush to open. 50% new oak. The first vintage that includes the newly-expanded vineyard footprint, with plots in St Christophe de Bardes and a large area near Cheval Blanc and Figeac.
93 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
I loved the 2018 Carillon D'Angélus. This Merlot-dominated blend (there's 15% Cabernet Franc) offers a healthy ruby/purple color as well as a complex, smoky bouquet of ripe black fruits, graphite, tobacco, and a kiss of earth. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it has a sexy, seamless texture, polished tannins, and the class to drink nicely for 15 years or more.

2020 Fowles Wines Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Shiraz
92 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Distinctive cool-climate aromas of charcuterie, dried kelp, peppercorn and clove. The aromas are thoroughly convincing, strongly reminiscent of, say, a good Crozes-Hermitage. Plenty of floral lift and buoyancy. The tannins are a tad drying, yet there is a sinuous elegance to this finer-boned shiraz that deserves attention. Drink now. Screw cap.

2023 Southern Right Pinotage
90 Neal Martin - Vinous Media
A blend of Swartland, Hemel and Stellenbosch fruit, the 2023 Pinotage has a delightful bouquet with mulberry and light blueberry scents, fine definition and purity. Maybe you would not guess it was Pinotage if tasted blind. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity and a caressing texture, with a touch of black olive tapenade on the grainy textured finish. Very fine.

2022 Podere La Boncie Le Trame Igp Toscana
96 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2022 Le Trame is a heady, beguiling beauty. Exotic and perfumed, with striking nuance, the 2022 is a more-than-worthy follow-up to the 2021. Crushed rose petal, red/plum fruit, blood orange, cloves and spice gradually open in the glass. There's quite a bit of tannin, so readers will have to be patient. Le Trame remains one of the most compelling, utterly singular wines in the world.

"Lovely aromas and flavors of ripe black cherry and currant fruit, graphite, toast and candied Meyer lemon zest are set in this racy Champagne, with a refined, finely detailed mousse. The mouthwatering finish is long and spicy. Drink now through 2022."
91+ John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"While I am not certain that there are still different bottlings of this wine for different markets, it was certainly the policy of the Grandes Marques up until very recently to have slightly different versions of their non-vintage Bruts for various locales. I am guessing that the bottling of Bollinger 'Speciale Cuvée' for the American market still has a touch more dosage than the French bottling (the US almost always used to get sweeter versions of Brut than other markets), as this seemed to have its steely structural elements just a bit more buffered out of the blocks, and though the two wines are quite similar qualitatively, there is little doubt that for immediate drinking, this is the more pleasurable version than its French counterpart. The bouquet is excellent, offering up scents of apple, warm bread, a touch of orange zest, lovely minerality and a gentle topnote of smokiness. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and beautifully balanced, with refined mousse, crisp acids and excellent length and grip on the complex and poised finish. To my palate, the dosage here is perfectly measured to seamlessly buffer the lovely acidity here and the wine just dances across the palate. High class non-vintage Brut. 2013-2025+." (08/13)
90 Allen Meadows - Burghound
"An expressive and attractively layered nose offers up notes of brioche, yeast and baked apple scents. Much like the Brut Rosé the effervescence is prominent to the point of being foamy yet it is not aggressive as the bead is quite fine on the moderately complex, round and delicious flavors that deliver fine if not truly exceptional persistence on the intensely yeasty finish." (09/12)
90 Wine & Spirits
"At every turn of flavor, barrel-fermented base wines add opulence to this Champagne with scents of apple wood, ginger and mustard seed balancing the youthful fruit. The flavors buzz with acidity and richness, a contrast of green apple with broader notes of baked apple; the texture is creamy, the finish completely clean. The wine’s structure is substantial enough to serve with sliced, seared beef filet at a holiday party." (12/13)

2020 Il Marroneto Madonna Delle Grazie Brunello Di Montalcino Sangiovese from Italy
#146258 750 mL
2020 Il Marroneto Madonna Delle Grazie Brunello Di Montalcino
99 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
An exquisite mix of elegant aromas dominates the nose, with notes of Parma violets, orange peel, Earl Grey tea, dried cherries, smoky woodland and earthy minerality. Full-bodied, it shows significant tannins, but it’s velvety, sweet and full of aging potential. The flavors are enhanced by energetic, slightly lifted acidity and a super-long, austere finish. It will last for decades. Try after 2025.
98 Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Il Marroneto 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie (tasted once in the winery and again in my office) is another classical expression of Sangiovese from vintner Alessandro Mori and his son Iacopo. This vintage is best described as more charming compared to the stacked 2019 vintage or the powerful 2016 edition. This is a very pretty wine, elegant and finessed, with pretty floral highlights of rose and violet that lean into a subtle menthol note. There is caramelized sugar and candied orange. The wine lives in oak for 46 months with just a brief time in steel before going into bottle (at the end of July 2024). This vintage is a little closed or tight in terms of mouthfeel, which suggests it needs more time in bottle to spread its wings.
98 Eric Guido - Vinous Media
The undeniably elegant 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie is amazingly fresh and vibrant on the nose, cascading from the glass with a burst of crushed cherries, rose petals, blood oranges and cloves. This displays exceptional elegance and grace, soothing the palate with its silken feel and ripe red and blue fruits. Hints of sour citrus add contrast, a mix of iron-borne minerals and fine tannins that mount toward the close. A saturation of primary concentration remains, offset by residual acidity as this finishes structured and impossibly long, leaving a sour cherry tinge and masses of violet pastille. The 2020 is a showboat yet complex and harmonious from start to finish. It's easily one of the absolute top wines of the vintage.

2024 G.B. Burlotto Langhe Freisa
90 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2024 Langhe Freisa is especially fine. Thick skins and loose bunches were ideal in this rainy vintage. Deep and layered, with tons of energy, the Freisa is truly superb in 2024. Dark-toned fruit, gravel, incense, game, licorice and dried herbs all come alive in the glass. Sweet spice and floral top notes resonate on the finish.
