The 2021 Granito del Cadalso has more fruit and is rounder, more approachable-looking, from locations in the valley that deliver that profile. It fermented mostly in concrete vats, destemmed and with indigenous yeasts, and had an élevage in concrete of approximately six months. It has notes of red berries and herbs, with purity and a gentle mouthfeel through very fine, chalky tannins. 4,800 bottles were filled in April 2022.

A blend of cabernet sauvignon 53%, merlot 35% and cabernet franc 12%. Vinous rather than fruity with chocolate/mocha, dark berry, cedar and petrichor (rain on hot asphalt) flavours. A complex wine with rich, ripe tannins.

"Total elegance-this Pinot Noir weaves conifer notes around bright red berry, cherry, and pomegranate fruit, accented by flinty minerality and gorgeous cedarwood. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers cherry, blood orange, and cranberry, all lifted by crunchy cranberry acidity. The tannins are fine, firm, and taut-beautifully elongated and persistent through the long, spicy finish. A superbly built and absolutely delicious Pinot Noir. Winemaker Brian Gruber explains that this Pinot Noir is a blend of older plantings and newer vines established in 2018. Grapes are mostly destemmed, though select lots are fermented with whole clusters for blending flexibility. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, with individual blocks vinified separately. After a short cold soak, native fermentations begin, accompanied by a regimen of pumpovers and punchdowns. Following primary fermentation, an extended maceration of up to 28 days builds mouthfeel, mid-palate weight, and structure. The wine is gently pressed, with primarily free-run juice selected for the final blend. It is aged in roughly one-third new French oak for up to 18 months before blending and bottling."

Malbec is often big, dark, and grapey, sometimes too much so. While this version is certainly big and dark, it has just the right amount of acidity to give it lift and a refreshing balance for a wine with this weight. There's enough mineral in the background to also give the wine flavor balance, almost old world-esque, yet without the tannins. Expect notes of blueberry, coffee bean, and just a little olive. Sourced from the amazing Boushey Vineyard, it's no wonder this is a first class wine and could easily rival many Argentinian Malbecs.

95-97 Lisa Perrotti-Brown - The Wine Palate

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Malescot St. Exupéry prances out with gregarious notes of juicy blueberries and black raspberries, leading to hints of violets, mossy tree bark, and camphor. The medium-bodied palate is intense with shimmery blue and red berry flavors, supported by ripe, fine-grained tannins and great tension, finishing long and perfumed. Stunning!
