"Total elegance-this Pinot Noir weaves conifer notes around bright red berry, cherry, and pomegranate fruit, accented by flinty minerality and gorgeous cedarwood. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers cherry, blood orange, and cranberry, all lifted by crunchy cranberry acidity. The tannins are fine, firm, and taut-beautifully elongated and persistent through the long, spicy finish. A superbly built and absolutely delicious Pinot Noir. Winemaker Brian Gruber explains that this Pinot Noir is a blend of older plantings and newer vines established in 2018. Grapes are mostly destemmed, though select lots are fermented with whole clusters for blending flexibility. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, with individual blocks vinified separately. After a short cold soak, native fermentations begin, accompanied by a regimen of pumpovers and punchdowns. Following primary fermentation, an extended maceration of up to 28 days builds mouthfeel, mid-palate weight, and structure. The wine is gently pressed, with primarily free-run juice selected for the final blend. It is aged in roughly one-third new French oak for up to 18 months before blending and bottling."

That said, there would not be a CFO who would not appreciate the benefit to his bottom line that a wine of such brilliant value would provide. Frankland River Shiraz from a single vineyard, with ten months in French oak barriques. Inky purple colour here, this is delightfully fragrant, full of purple fruit notes. We have aromas swirling through mocha, blackberries, graphite, cigar boxes, chocolate and hints of blueberries. Good intensity, balance and concentration of flavours here. Well-structured with a decade ahead of it, this is seriously good value.

The introduction to this wine is pure seduction. Mint, melted dark chocolate, sweet blackcurrant, coconut, Nutella and a general impression that you’re about to dive into a rich, dark, hedonistic pool. All these first impressions are confirmed when you take your first mouthful, which is faithful to the nose but then adds a significant swagger of tannin. This wine is certainly seductive but it’s also serious, in style, and serious in quality too. Indeed the word profound comes to mind. There’s some alcohol warmth here but this is an outstanding wine, concentrated, warm and expansive.

In a warmer year like 2022, it shows good concentration of ripe red and black fruits, with its excellent acidity and tense, fine tannins providing fluidity to the wine and overall structure. Structured, yet harmonious and refined, it has a succulent and persistent finish with toasted, earthy, floral, balsamic, sweet spice, blackberry, and plum notes.
