#151334 750 mL
2022 Irvine And Roberts Estate Pinot Noir
95 Jonathan Cristaldi - Cristaldi & Co
"Total elegance-this Pinot Noir weaves conifer notes around bright red berry, cherry, and pomegranate fruit, accented by flinty minerality and gorgeous cedarwood. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers cherry, blood orange, and cranberry, all lifted by crunchy cranberry acidity. The tannins are fine, firm, and taut-beautifully elongated and persistent through the long, spicy finish. A superbly built and absolutely delicious Pinot Noir. Winemaker Brian Gruber explains that this Pinot Noir is a blend of older plantings and newer vines established in 2018. Grapes are mostly destemmed, though select lots are fermented with whole clusters for blending flexibility. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, with individual blocks vinified separately. After a short cold soak, native fermentations begin, accompanied by a regimen of pumpovers and punchdowns. Following primary fermentation, an extended maceration of up to 28 days builds mouthfeel, mid-palate weight, and structure. The wine is gently pressed, with primarily free-run juice selected for the final blend. It is aged in roughly one-third new French oak for up to 18 months before blending and bottling."

Combining density with richness and polish, this Pinot's dynamic cherry and pomegranate flavors take on stony minerality and forest floor accents while building tension toward medium-grained tannins. Best from 2025 through 2032. 230 cases made.

"The 2022 ‘Home Ranch Cuvee’ is sourced from this location in southwestern Sonoma County that was planted by Sojourn founder Craig Haserot in 2002. Soft and refined on the mouth, this shows sweet pipe tobacco and black cherry compote flavors alongside shades of black licorice on the palate. Medium bodied, with good tension, enjoy now and over the next ten years. Drink 2024-2034"
92 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Ripe black cherries, blackberries, raspberries and a touch of graphite on the nose. Silky tannins and broad acidity give structure and restraint to this fruit-forward, full-bodied wine. Drink now.

2021 Yering Station Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
93 James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion
Fully destemmed and matured in 500L French puncheons (15% new) for 9 months. A bright crimson ruby. Opens well with a tight core of strawberry and cranberry fruit. There's a little spice, with the oak sitting discreetly in the background. Equally bright on the very even and persistent palate, this should provide plenty of enjoyment now and over the next 5 or so years.

92 Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Broken Shale is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it strolls out of the glass with nonchalant notes of warm cassis, stewed plums and dried mulberries with hints of fragrant earth and licorice. Full-bodied, the palate delivers a soft texture and great freshness lifting the concentrated flavor to bright, savory finish.
92 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
Both red and black fruits, tobacco, chocolate, and some earthy, herbal nuances all show in the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Broken Shale, which comes from the Pritchard Ridge Vineyard on Atlas Peak. Medium to full-bodied, round, and elegant on the palate, it certainly delivers the goods at the price and is unquestionably an outstanding wine.

Perhaps not a label one envisages encountering on CBD boardroom dining tables, but that would be their loss. That said, there would not be a CFO who would not appreciate the benefit to his bottom line that a wine of such brilliant value would provide. Frankland River Shiraz from a single vineyard, with ten months in French oak barriques. Inky purple colour here, this is delightfully fragrant, full of purple fruit notes. We have aromas swirling through mocha, blackberries, graphite, cigar boxes, chocolate and hints of blueberries. Good intensity, balance and concentration of flavours here. Well-structured with a decade ahead of it, this is seriously good value.

It's sweetly ripe and wonderfully complex on the nose showing dark berry, vanillin oak, clove and violet aromas, followed by a concentrated palate that's gracefully silky and lingering, backed by firm tannins, finishing impressively long and structured. At its best: now to 2037.
95 Campbell Mattinson - campbellmattinson.com
The introduction to this wine is pure seduction. Mint, melted dark chocolate, sweet blackcurrant, coconut, Nutella and a general impression that you’re about to dive into a rich, dark, hedonistic pool. All these first impressions are confirmed when you take your first mouthful, which is faithful to the nose but then adds a significant swagger of tannin. This wine is certainly seductive but it’s also serious, in style, and serious in quality too. Indeed the word profound comes to mind. There’s some alcohol warmth here but this is an outstanding wine, concentrated, warm and expansive.

A red blend composed of Touriga Nacional (60%), Touriga Franca (25%), and Tinta Roriz (15%) grapes, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. In a warmer year like 2022, it shows good concentration of ripe red and black fruits, with its excellent acidity and tense, fine tannins providing fluidity to the wine and overall structure. Structured, yet harmonious and refined, it has a succulent and persistent finish with toasted, earthy, floral, balsamic, sweet spice, blackberry, and plum notes.

"A plateau in the north of Margaux gives a highly aromatic wine, its black fruits and acidity with weight and intense ripeness. The wine will be ready from 2027. Organic and biodynamic. -RV"
94 La Revue Du Vin De France
"Le Plateau, the northern part of the vineyard, is much softer and creamier, with beautiful suavity."
93 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
"The 2021 Le Plateau de Durfort-Vivens is almost all Cabernet Sauvignon, as the Merlot was decimated by frost. Powerful and explosive in the glass, the 2021 offers up an exotic mélange of dark-toned fruit, gravel, incense, tobacco, licorice and crushed rocks. Give this time to soften."

93 Joe Czerwinski - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Production was down slightly in 2022, but Modus Operandi's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is reassuringly excellent, with bold notes of black cherries and raspberries on the nose. It's 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each Merlot and Malbec, with elements coming from Coombsville, Atlas Peak and Carneros; there's even some Sage Ridge and Houyi fruit in the mix as well. Nicely done, it's not overly ripe or tannic, being full-bodied and structured but ripe and supple enough to sample now, with a lingering crystalline quality to the finish."
