The deep ruby 2021 Pinot Noir St. Dolores Estate takes on a darker though approachable profile, with notes of lavender, fresh blackberry, wild cherry, and anise. Balanced with great energy and a more refined feel, it has fine tannins (although it has structure) and offers bright, even acidity and a long finish. This is already indicating that it’s going to be a remarkable wine with serious aging potential. Drink 2025-2040.

A savory blend of black cherries, extra dark chocolate and underbrush wafts up from the 2020 Rosso Alanera. This is silky-smooth and quite polished in feel, with depths of wild berry fruit and citrus adding contrast. The 2020 finishes with medium length, a bit dry, yet completely satisfying. There’s no need to wait here as the Rosso Veronese aims to please. This is a blend of 55% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Aged for 24 months in oak barrels crafted at the winery, this garnet wine features a vanilla-cedar layer, accompanied by notes of black fruit, plums and subtle hints of herbs and animal nuances. The palate is dry, creamy and juicy, with a fairly chalky texture that lingers, presenting a compact flow.

While the region's natural freshness abounds, the wine retains a round shape and natural curve before being sewn up by a thread of acidity. There are layers of interest here that will keep you coming back.

With fruit from a celebrated site in the village of Neive with its rolling hills and wide panoramas, this is a lean and shiny ruby-colored wine. The Paitin 2020 Barbaresco Serraboella is ethereal and luminous in appearance; however, the aromas offer strength and a bold character. There is bright berry fruit, but the bigger takeaways are savory nuances of licorice, iris root and even an exotic note of teakwood or mahogany. This is an impeccably elegant wine with 10,000 bottles made. It stands out in this flight.

""The new release of the Ployez-Jacquemart non-vintage Brut is outstanding on both the nose and palate. The blend is made up of sixty percent pinot noir and pinot meunier, combined with forty percent chardonnay. The bouquet is deep, quite marked by its red grape components and beautifully complex, as it jumps from the glass in a blaze of ripe apple, blood orange, fresh-baked bread, caraway seed, citrus peel and a very complex base of minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and snappy, with a great core of fruit, bright acids, great focus, very fine mousse and exceptional grip on the very long, minerally and intensely flavored finish. There is a depth and flavor authority here that is most rare in Brut NVs, and as good as this wine is today, it will only get better if cellared for a few years. Superb bubbly."
