2020 Elio Grasso Barolo Runcot Riserva Nebbiolo from Italy
#152321 750 mL
2020 Elio Grasso Barolo Runcot Riserva
98+ Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
Pouring a deeper ruby color, the 2020 Barolo Riserva RĂĽncot is a powerful yet contemplative wine. Aromas of black raspberries, cedar, citrus oils, and dark stones unfold gradually from the glass. Medium- to full-bodied, it shows remarkable clarity and concentration without weight, with mineral depth and persistent energy across the palate. The oak spice is present yet beautifully integrated, adding complexity rather than dominance. Built for long aging, this exceptional Riserva will reward patience. Around 5,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2027-2057.
98+ Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2020 Barolo Riserva RĂĽncot is just as memorable as it was last year. More than anything else, the 2020 is a RĂĽncot that prizes finesse over just power. Silky tannins, mid-weight structure and striking delineation further amplify that initial impression. Readers should note that Elio Grasso is releasing the 2020 ahead of the 2019. I can't remember ever tasting a young RĂĽncot with such finesse.

Knowing the varietal mix that made this wine it is easy to grab the scents of Sb then Riesling with a lick of spice from the PG. On the palate these ideas repeats adding in the floral apricot mix of Viognier and acidity from all 4 varieties used. Dry and satin smooth with a spicy balanced fruity core, refreshing and salivating finishing with the floral spice tones of Viognier. Well made and very tasty with best drinking from day of purchase through 2029.

2022 Giovanni Rosso Etna Rosso Contrade Nuove
93 Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Giovanni Rosso 2022 Etna Rosso Contrade Nuove has a little more textural heft with dark fruit aromas due to the warm summer growing conditions on the volcano. This vintage was hot but cooled down by rain at the right times. Vintner Davide Rosso says that Nerello Mascalese tends to go into reduction and can produce green tannins. His solution is to allow more oxygen in winemaking with the use, for example, of amphorae, which tend to be more porous. Conical oak vats and stainless steel are also used. This pretty wine offers bright fruit, cherry and crushed roses.

94 Billy Norris - Vinous Media
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is in its infancy today, but it’s absolutely seductive and sizzling, stacked floor to ceiling with intriguing layers that just need some time to coalesce. Cooling mint, black raspberry, juniper, leather and high-percentage dark chocolate open gradually, unfurling into a soft-textured, caressing, broad wine of sheer class. Oak is very much at the forefront for now, but the juicy freshness and old-school/new-school juxtaposition are really appealing. The 2021 is certainly not short on pure, clear fruit. Give this a couple of years to settle into itself.

2020 Chateau Sociando Mallet Haut Medoc Blend from France
#139958 750 mL
2020 Chateau Sociando Mallet Haut Medoc
94 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
"Every bit as good as the 2019, although in a slightly more concentrated, burly style, the 2020 Château Sociando-Mallet is close to an even split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a splash of Cabernet Franc, all from vines located just north of Saint-Estèphe. It brings lots of ripeness and richness, with darker currants, plums, leafy tobacco, chocolate, and graphite-like aromatics that build nicely with time in the glass. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Haut-Médoc revealing a deep, layered mid-palate, ripe, sweet tannins, plenty of concentration, and a great finish. Where the 2019 is silky and elegant, this is more in your face and foursquare, and it's mostly potential at this stage, although it clearly offers pleasure even today with its wealth of fruit. It's going to hit maturity around a decade after the vintage and, I suspect, will keep for 2-3 decades."
93 Neal Martin - Vinous Media
The 2020 Sociando Mallet has retained its impressive aromatics from its showing in barrel with beautifully defined blackberry and raspberry fruit, pressed violet and light cedar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm backbone, a little powdery in texture, fine backbone with ample freshness and tension towards its graphite-infused finish. Bravo!
92+ William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Sociando-Mallet is very attractive, exhibiting aromas of cassis and plums mingled with notions of pencil shavings, loamy soil, tobacco leaf and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with lively acids and powdery tannins, it's a strong effort from a site that always does well in warm vintages. The 2020 is a blend of 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc.

93 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2021 Chardonnay Bentrock opens with striking, expansive aromatics. There's a bit more new oak here, and that also comes through. Orchard fruit, mint, white flowers, white pepper and pear all open with some coaxing. I especially admire the wine's inner sweetness. All the 2021 needs is a bit of time to emerge. <

2022 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir Burn Cottage Vineyard Central Otago
95 Erin Larkin - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir is light and fine, with a delicate array of cherry, strawberry, red apple and freshly pressed linen notes. Woven throughout is sweet tobacco, graphite, white tea and finely ground pink peppercorns. In the mouth, the acidity works with the tannins to penetrate the palate with flavour, and it has an ethereal quality to it, which marks it as distinctly different from the Sauvage Pinot Noir. This is an eminently pretty Pinot Noir and comes highly recommended.
95 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Perfumed and fragrant aromas of dark cherries, blackberry bushes, spices, wet bark and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with firmly integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of red currants, wild raspberries, citrus peel and lead pencil. Refined and pure with an underlying power and tension”
95 Wine Spectator
A stunning red, offering an aromatic and expressive mix of blueberry, raspberry and maraschino cherry, along with notes of dried rose petal, sandalwood and toasted cumin seed, plus a touch of fresh mint. Plush and velvety, with details of black walnut liqueur, white pepper and palo santo that linger on the long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2039.
