The flagship Cabernet Sauvignon dominated (there's a splash of Cabernet Franc) 2014 Apex is straight up gorgeous on all accounts! Classic notes of blackcurrants, licorice, toasted spice, tobacco and graphite all emerge from this deeply colored, medium to full-bodied, layered, even sexy Cabernet, and it's undoubtedly the greatest vintage of this cuvee to date. I put this wine just behind the Ridge Mont Bello Cuvee (it's made in a more fresh, elegant style, however) for the top Bordeaux blend of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The 2014 Apex Gist Ranch Estate is essentially the best four barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon off the property. Explosive, powerful and tannic the Apex hits all the right notes. Inky blue and purplish fruit, crème de cassis, menthol, lavender and sweet spices hit the palate in a sumptuous, structured Cabernet endowed with real pedigree and class. The 2014 Apex is the best wine I have tasted from Lexington yet.

Disgorged in June of 2025 with zero dosage and based on 100% Marsanne, the 2020 Saint-Péray Les Bulles D'Alain displays a medium gold hue with very fine bubbles. It offers a classy nose of ripe orchard fruits, brioche, green almonds, and croissant. It's medium-bodied and has a pure, layered, elegant mousse, terrific balance, and outstanding length. I like it today, yet it should keep nicely through 2035. Drink 2026-2035.

Rich golden yellow in colour. An intense nose of ripe yellow apple, thyme, some lardo, and grown-up undertones. The fine mousse plays around the palate with tasty tart notes of quince and grapefruit, allied to a pleasant acid core. Good length on the finish, ending with white chocolate in the aftertaste. An exceptional Crémant made from 100 percent Marsanne.

The outgoing 2020 Saint-Péray Les Bulles d'Alain first projects forthright yellow apple, ripe pear, white peach and twists of brioche. Dried blossom adds a gentle floral lift. Medium-bodied and vivifying, the 2020 is an enticing Les Bulles d'Alain, settling the final impression with toasty finesse on the complex final beat. Disgorged June 2023. Zero dosage. Lot Nr. "The 2018 Barolo Riserva Cascina Dardi is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Spice, worn-in leather, cedar and pipe tobacco are all suggestive of a Barolo that is headed into its first plateau of maturity. The Riserva is a strong wine for the year, but the medium-bodied structure of the vintage is impossible to ignore. There's plenty to like, but I would not push my luck on aging. A burst of floral and spice notes wrapped in silky tannins rounds things out in this stylish Barolo from the Fantino brothers."

Austere Barbaresco with meaty, dark and vibrant nose. Fresh violets and roses are fully integrated with strawberries and dried cherries. Very savory and focused, with even a whiff of cinnamon and licorice. Full-bodied, it shines for the weight and again savoriness, sanguine depth. Tight-knit structure with firm, dusty yet integrated tannins and a polished finish. A lot of energy. Drink or hold.
