The NV La Bota de Manzanilla Pasada 120 Botas NO is the most recent bottling of this mythical wine, in this case the result of combining the “Bota Punta” with two outstanding casks of the 1/15 solera. This is an extraordinary Manzanilla of character, complexity and depth, with 14 years of average age, matured under flor for 10 years (and in a more oxidative way the last four to five years) in topped-up barrels. So, it's a little in the way of turning into an Amontillado but keeping the biological and saline character of the Manzanilla. I tasted from an opened bottle, and the wine had closed down and took some time to open up. The nose is impressive, for the first time with some Amontillado hints, mainly hazelnuts and a little varnish. It has concentration and depth, persistence and pungency. It's approachable and has the stuffing and balance to age nicely. 3,000 half-liter bottles produced. It was bottled in 2023.

One of the modern classics for d’Arenberg, this is fermented with a high proportion of lightly pressed viognier skins and then has shiraz added late in the elevate to tone the viognier influence into balance. The aromas are fresh, richly spicy and lead by exuberantly ripe blackberries and dark plums with toasted spices and meaty elements. The palate has such richness and exotic, powerful tannins carry ripe dark plums and berries long and deep. Impressive depth and composure. Drink over the next decade.

Disgorged in June 2023 with a dosage of 1.9 grams per liter, the Leclerc Briant’s 2018 Blanc de Blancs possesses a delicate, bright bouquet with aromas of pear, spring flowers and lemon oil. Moderately weighted with a tense, fresh entry, it’s seamless, with a fine-boned texture enhanced by bubbles of striking finesse and delicacy. It will drink at its peak in five to 10 years.

Firm but ultra-refined tannins provide support. A great expression of this hallowed site's celebrated elegance and energy, it's also a wonderful representation of the vintage and at the moment is youthfully austere so give it time to bloom into the beauty it will become. The 2019 Barolo Riserva Cannubi is such a total knockout. I am not always a fan of Riservas, as I don’t think the wines always deliver something meaningfully better than the non-Riserva versions, but that clearly does not apply here. A statuesque, towering Barolo, Rinaldi's 2019 Riserva dazzles from start to finish. Cannubi signatures are amplified to the maximum, but not distorted. Waves of dark red fruit caress the palate on the way to a deep, layered finish that is nothing short of compelling. Bravo!

Only made in the best vintages, the Francesco Rinaldi & Figli 2019 Barolo Riserva Cannubi reveals medium-rich concentration with more color intensity than is typical of this vintage. Nebbiolo from 2019 tends to lean into purple and dark fruits and more generous flavors. Fruit comes from the highest part of the Cannubi Boschis block, with sandy soils at 300 meters in elevation. This Riserva is aged in oak for 42 months. Only 3,300 bottles are made from this half-hectare plot.
