"A superbly dense, concentrated wine so rich in flavor that it almost has a brooding, dark quality. The hint of medicinal character just gives all this intensity a lift, and goes with flavors of roasted nuts and licorice. The aftertaste has just the right acidity."

94 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Precise and translucent aromas of red cherries, pencil shavings, blood oranges and rose petals. The palate is refined and polished, with vivid red fruit and chalky, mouthwatering tannins. There’s nervy tension and real drive, with great aging potential. Delicious. Drink or hold.

93 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
This racy, light-bodied riesling has fabulous juiciness. I love the zesty pink grapefruit and blood orange flavors that make this such a joyful wine. Very long, expressive finish. A cuvee of wines from the Bohlig and Konigswingert sites that were wild-fermented. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

2021 Juanvi Viticultor Quercus Grenache / Garnacha from Spain

2021 Juanvi Viticultor Quercus
93 Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Rubus Quercus (Juanvi Quercus in the US) is a blend of approximately 70% Garnacha and 30% Miguel del Arco from 40- to 50-year-old vines at 800 to 960 meters in altitude. 2021 was cooler, healthy but low yielding because of a snowstorm in January and frost in April. It fermented with some 10% full clusters and indigenous yeasts with a long maceration of four weeks and matured in second and third used 500-liter oak barrels for six months. It has a bright ruby color and a perfumed and floral nose and is elegant, very tasty, harmonious and nuanced. It's spicy and fresh, with integrated oak, and it's more soil- than fruit-driven. It's ripe with 14.4% alcohol and good freshness. 6,600 bottles were filled in two lots, in May and December 2022.

89 Anne Krebiehl MW - Vinous Media
The 2022 Zind is a blend of two-thirds Chardonnay and one-third Auxerrois from the Triassic limestone soils in the Clos Windsbuhl. The nose shines with fresh, ripe, juicy yellow apple fringed with lovely zestiness. This is light-bodied, sunny, medium-bodied, fruity and fresh, with Chardonnay's added textural pleasure. (Bone-Dry)

Cain Cuvee Red Nv18
95 Decanter
The NV18 is largely a base blend of the 2018 vintage with additional vintages blended in, typically the previous two. Aged two years in neutral French oak. It's good to know, for those who know, that these wines are often incredibly savoury, yet this is fairly bright and ripe-fruited, with hints of dried straw grass, dried tobacco, loamy earth, tar, and incense. Gentle tannins create a soft palate expression, building with a full-bodied richness of darkberry fruit, and brown baking spices on the mineral-scented finish.

2020 Sierra Cantabria Rioja Reserva Unica Tempranillo / Tinto Fino / Tinta Roriz from Spain
#151679 750 mL
2020 Sierra Cantabria Rioja Reserva Unica
"A fruit-conscious Rioja reserva with flowers, plums and bramble berries. Rich and deep, with restrained oak spices and a touch of minerals. Excellent fruit quality, with fine-grained tannins and a long, bright finish. Drink or hold." -Zekun Shuai
"The 2020 Reserva Única comes from the COVID-19 (and mildew) year and tries to combine the primary character with the complexity of the older wines. It's mostly from one vineyard that has some Graciano (maybe 3%) that always gives the wine an aromatic and fresh kick. It comes through as very balanced. It started a little closed and shy and took time to open up in the glass. Again, the 2020 in Rioja has less body and clout than 2021, the wines are finer-boned and the tannins have some grip. This matured in a combination of French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels for two years, but the oak is very integrated and folded into the fruit. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2023."
92 JoaquÃn Hidalgo - Vinous Media
"The 2020 Reserva Única Sierra Cantabria is 97% Tempranillo and 3% Graciano from Labastida. Aged 24 months in 60% French and 40% American oak, 15% of it new, it offers red fruit, cherry, new oak and a vinous profile on the nose. In the mouth, it's smooth and slightly caramelized, with gentle tannins and a fruit-driven style. The 2020 is a modern Reserva with clarity and expression."

2023 Antinori Solaia Blend from Italy
#153515 750 mL
2023 Antinori Solaia
98 Decanter
James Button - Solaia sings in 2023. It's supremely vertical with already-integrated sandy tannins, its tall frame adorned with crunchy, sapid forest berries, chocolate, menthol, iodine and floral top notes. Generous and finessed, it's drinking surprisingly well at this early stage and will continue to prosper for the next two decades at least.
97 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2023 Solaia has gained a measure of weight since I first tasted it a few months ago. Inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, blackberry, graphite and dried herbs soar from the glass. Cabernet Sauvignon speaks with notable eloquence and character. There's gorgeous purity and restraint here.
97 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
A big Solaia with lots of fruit and spices as well as mint and spearmint. Aromatic. Full-bodied with lots of fruit and chewy tannins. Muscular and juicy for a modern Solaia. Needs three to four years of age to come together. Best after 2028.
