The 2022 Zind is a blend of two-thirds Chardonnay and one-third Auxerrois from the Triassic limestone soils in the Clos Windsbuhl. The nose shines with fresh, ripe, juicy yellow apple fringed with lovely zestiness. This is light-bodied, sunny, medium-bodied, fruity and fresh, with Chardonnay's added textural pleasure. The NV18 is largely a base blend of the 2018 vintage with additional vintages blended in, typically the previous two. Aged two years in neutral French oak. It's good to know, for those who know, that these wines are often incredibly savoury, yet this is fairly bright and ripe-fruited, with hints of dried straw grass, dried tobacco, loamy earth, tar, and incense. Gentle tannins create a soft palate expression, building with a full-bodied richness of darkberry fruit, and brown baking spices on the mineral-scented finish.

"The 2020 Reserva Única comes from the COVID-19 (and mildew) year and tries to combine the primary character with the complexity of the older wines. It's mostly from one vineyard that has some Graciano (maybe 3%) that always gives the wine an aromatic and fresh kick. It comes through as very balanced. It started a little closed and shy and took time to open up in the glass. Again, the 2020 in Rioja has less body and clout than 2021, the wines are finer-boned and the tannins have some grip. This matured in a combination of French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels for two years, but the oak is very integrated and folded into the fruit. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2023."

"The 2020 Reserva Única Sierra Cantabria is 97% Tempranillo and 3% Graciano from Labastida. Aged 24 months in 60% French and 40% American oak, 15% of it new, it offers red fruit, cherry, new oak and a vinous profile on the nose. In the mouth, it's smooth and slightly caramelized, with gentle tannins and a fruit-driven style. The 2020 is a modern Reserva with clarity and expression."

"The Domenico Clerico 2020 Barolo Ginestra Ciabot Mentin shows really great balance in terms of the oak integration. For the first time, the estate has decided to use large oak casks (removing the barrique entirely), and the results are extraordinary. There is a lot of dark fruit, like cranberry and currant, that holds tight and defines the wine throughout. There is black tea and spice, but these tones work with the fruit not against it. It finishes smooth, with glossy tannins, pretty acidity and a much brighter and lighter overall personality. Only 5,000 bottles were made."

Bright ruby color suggesting youth. It has an extremely floral nose of fresh roses, violets, pomegranate, cherry fruit and soft spices. The medium-bodied palate is soft with velvety tannins, refreshing acidity, a bit of vibrancy and a polished finish. A really enjoyable wine, but it needs 10 years of cellaring to develop its potential of complexity. Drink from 2034.

More depth is provided thanks to delicate mineral shadings and lightly toasted spice. These are balanced and elegant results.
