The wines are matured in seasoned oak casks in Taylor’s cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. "The NV 40 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled with a bar top cork in 2014. It comes in with 125 grams per liter of residual sugar. Big, weighty and mouth filling, this is an aromatic Tawny that finishes with acidity and tension. Gripping on the finish, its flavors become more interesting as long as it sits in the glass (or on your palate). It is not, perhaps, as sunny as the Fonseca, its sibling reviewed this issue, but it is denser and more gripping. Comparing to the Taylor 30 (also reviewed), I'm not sure I liked the 40 here all that much better. The 30 is a bit fleshier while this 40 is a bit more concentrated in flavor and aromatics. Perhaps some additional age also helped this 40 combat some of the aggression on the 30. They are both pretty fine, a difference of five to Midnight and five after, rather than night and day. It is still a fine experience and my favorite of the group. Don't drink it too warm. Room temperature is mostly too warm. The sweet spot for most tends to be 58-62 degrees Fahrenheit."

Pale colour, the fruit has a waxy lemon note to it medium bodied, though with good intensity towards the back of the palate, indeed this does have impressive persistence. The fruit is generous enough, apple and persimmon, to cover the bones, with a light citrus wash to finish. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.

"The 2024 Grüner Veltliner Kamptal Terrassen comes from various sites in Kamptal, across different altitudes and from younger vines of the single sites. It was made in stainless steel. Creamy, lemony yeast is the first accent on the nose, followed by wet pebble. The palate is fresh, lithe and lemony, with subtle earthiness on the mid-palate and gentle citrus freshness."

From the Larnage region of this larger appellation, all destemmed and aged mostly in used barrels with just 10% new, the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Alt. 330 sports a deep ruby hue as well as an impressive nose of ripe red and black berries, peppery herbs, violets, baking spices, and some cured meat-like nuances. It's a rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated Crozes with ripe, integrated tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. I think it's the clear standout in the lineup here, and while I love it today, I wouldn't be surprised to see it gain complexity with 2-4 years of bottle age and shine over the following decade or more. It's an impressive Crozes Hermitage that I think is even better than the 2022, which is another brilliant wine from this estate. Drink 2028-2038.

The palate is medium-bodied, framed by polished tannins, with delicate fruit and a velvety, prodigious texture that is highly attractive. Derived from long aging on the skins in amphora (talha, as they are known in Alentejo). Drink now.
