"The 1985 Colheita Tawny Port Dalva comes in with 129 grams per liter of residual sugar. This adds a layer or two of depth to the 1994 Colheita reviewed. It is pretty fine. The texture is richer, a bit unctuous, and the finish lingers beautifully. Dribbling waves of caramel and a hint of molasses over the palate, this quickly becomes irresistible. It is nicely balanced, too, easy to drink."

"From the lowest yields since 2004, the 2015 El Desafio de Jonata smells like a barrel sample with its jammy blackberry, blueberry, cassis, crushed rock and lead pencil aromas and flavors. Understated and delicate, with lovely textural depth, the 2022 is very fine. The 100% stems are not that evident in this vintage. Instead, the 2022 speaks to total balance and class.

Crushed flowers and bright red-toned fruit immediately confer freshness and a level of high-toned notes not especially typical of Happy Canyon Cabernets. With medium to full-bodied richness, a pure, layered mouthfeel, and ultra-fine tannins, it’s impossible to resist. Give it some air if drinking any time soon, and it will clearly evolve gracefully over the coming 10-12 years or more.

Entirely crafted from old Grenache Noir vines, the 2022 Gigondas Clovis Saurel was macerated for seven weeks and matured for 15 months in large barrels. Evoking a deep, earthy bouquet of cedar, tobacco, oak, smoke and spices mingled with carnal notes, it's full-bodied, rich and concentrated with a fleshy core of fruit and structured tannins that bring some structure and power, concluding with a long, tobacco-inflected finish. This ripe, somewhat overripe Gigondas will offer a broad drinking window.
