The Glenlivet 21-Year Single Malt Scotch is an excellent whisky and a true delight. Complex, interesting, balanced, and engaging, the nose and palate possess a rarely-seen synergy which makes for a delightfully well-considered experience. I could drink this whisky every day.

Fragrant and herbal aromas, with pine needles, basil, green bell pepper, pea pod, black truffle, peppercorn, and smoke from smoldering dry mosses and wood shavings. It’s very smooth and refreshing, with pear, peppermint, lemon, lime, green tea, kiwi, and herbal notes, finishing with chopped mint, more herbal layers, and gentle peppery spice. A unique composition and a quintessential Japanese whisky experience.

On the nose, this blend is all oak and black pepper, like a well-used pepper mill. Cigar leaf and ash complement the spice, creating a slightly musty impression. Leather, lemon peel, and damp grass rise from the must when water is added. The palate opens with a lightning strike of heat that quickly subsides, revealing wood shavings, cinnamon oatmeal, and lemon. The finish is dry and leans heavily on wood and black pepper.

The nose is utterly irresistible with rich, honeyed aromas of granola, malted barley, vanilla, ground almond, and cream on hot porridge. The slightly waxy mouthfeel gives it a luxurious sheen, with flavors of citrus, heather honey fudge, vanilla, and peppery spice, followed by dried fruits, notably apricot and mango, oak, and hints of bourbon biscuit. A lively, mouth-coating finish of cinnamon and pepper round it out handsomely.

Solera vat blended after aging in a combination of sherry, bourbon, and new oak casks. Very sherried on the nose at first, with candle wax, old barrel char, and baked berries. The palate is notably smooth and flavorful, the bourbon cask notes chime in with vanilla and baking spice, and the new oak gives subtle spine and grip. Light in ABV, but that only adds to its delicate charms.
