On the nose there’s apple pie, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, vanilla extract, and cookie dough wafting from the glass. There’s also a trace of earthiness, thanks to a clean grassy note and the slightest bit of salinity. The palate is well-spiced, honeyed, and full of vanilla sweetness, with some espresso and black pepper. A delightfully rich finish offers up a mouthful of baked apples and lingering spice. More subtle and complex than the new 12 year old, and not as sweet. Creamy in texture and floral on the nose, with dried vanilla, gentle spice, nectarine, kiwi, plum, and lemon gum drops. Soft, elegant finish with a hint of mint. Great balance of a variety of flavors and lots of finesse. A well-crafted whisky!

This solera-inspired blend has an evocative nose of ground cinnamon, strawberry cheesecake, mellow baking spices, and more red berries, with water unearthing fruit tarts and saltwater taffy. The palate is similarly sweet and fruity, comprising cherry gelato, vanilla, and Concord grapes, all underscored by nutmeg, barrel spice, and a bit of gingerbread. The finish adds blackberry jam, cloves, spiced cherry preserves, and strawberry drizzle. Though on the stronger side, the port cask flavors are nicely balanced.

Created by master distiller Brent Elliott to mark the distillery’s grand reopening, this Bourbon is the first permanent addition to the portfolio since 2006. This is a concentrated sip—even with plenty of water—showing warm, toasty vanilla, sugar cookies and buttery brioche, finishing extra-long and drying, accented by plenty of baking spice. It’s a real lip-smacker. —K.N.
