On the nose, this blend is all oak and black pepper, like a well-used pepper mill. Cigar leaf and ash complement the spice, creating a slightly musty impression. Leather, lemon peel, and damp grass rise from the must when water is added. The palate opens with a lightning strike of heat that quickly subsides, revealing wood shavings, cinnamon oatmeal, and lemon. The finish is dry and leans heavily on wood and black pepper.

Opening nosings detect concentrated, litchi nut, deep-roasted grain scents; aroma turns baked, buttery, oaky and almost brandy-like with aeration. Palate entry is integrated, sweet, and slightly peppery; at midpalate there s a sweet oak/vanilla rush that backs off prior to the finish, leaving behind taste traces of spirity heat, vanilla extract, cake frosting, butter cream and resin. Evokes thoughts of Cognac, in particular, from the Borderies district. Best Buy.

Aromas of chocolate-drizzled caramels, autumn leaves, cherry granola, fine furniture, and corn fritters with a velvety, bright, medium-to-full body and a smooth, captivating, medium-long salted hazelnuts, caramel tart, whipped cream, tobacco, and spice cookies finish. A sultry, oaky Bourbon for the connoisseur.

9 OUT OF 10 POINTS... You get bourbon, sherry, and Scotch with this dram. Plenty of sweetness from fruit influence without becoming sour or off-putting. Another dram to delight your friends and doesn’t break the bank. It is deep enough in flavor that you can really sink your teeth into the beefy meat of this without feeling like you can’t appreciate what’s happening due to the complexity. For me, this is a dram that is right where you want it to be as a whiskey amateur. Not a total novice, but maybe you don’t feel quite like a pro yet. Its an excellent bottle.

Created by master distiller Brent Elliott to mark the distillery’s grand reopening, this Bourbon is the first permanent addition to the portfolio since 2006. This is a concentrated sip—even with plenty of water—showing warm, toasty vanilla, sugar cookies and buttery brioche, finishing extra-long and drying, accented by plenty of baking spice.
