Pleasing aromas of rich black soil and figs. The juicy palate has complex layers of red and black fruit, dried herbs and rose petals. A full-bodied wine that is very drinkable now, but will have more to reveal in two years.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Moon Mountain District includes two blocks from Monte Rosso in this appellation blend. In the glass, it pours a saturated, youthful purple color and is ripe in this vintage, with pretty and pure aromas of fresh lavender perfume, blackberries, wet stones, mountain herbs, and some red-fruited highlights. It’s full-bodied, approachable, and well-defined in its structure, and it retains refreshing acidity, ripe tannins, and an even feel through the finish. It’s an impressive and well-balanced wine in this hot vintage, with a wide drinking window to enjoy over the coming 10-12 years.

Perhaps not a label one envisages encountering on CBD boardroom dining tables, but that would be their loss. That said, there would not be a CFO who would not appreciate the benefit to his bottom line that a wine of such brilliant value would provide. Frankland River Shiraz from a single vineyard, with ten months in French oak barriques. Inky purple colour here, this is delightfully fragrant, full of purple fruit notes. We have aromas swirling through mocha, blackberries, graphite, cigar boxes, chocolate and hints of blueberries. Good intensity, balance and concentration of flavours here. Well-structured with a decade ahead of it, this is seriously good value.

"From vines planted between 2002 and 2005, the 2023 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard was fermented with 15% whole clusters and matured in 50% new French oak. It takes coaxing to reveal cranberry, orange peel, cinnamon stick, forest floor and mushroom aromas. Full-bodied, it floods the mouth with dark, earthy flavors. It’s structured by silky tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, latent finish. It will benefit from time in the cellar. 1,175 cases produced."
