The 2023 Zinfandel Old Vine was raised in 600-gallon foudre with a small proportion (8%) in new oak, and it’s roughly 90% Zinfandel along with an eclectic field mix. The nose opens to bright peppery spice, fresh cut flowers, and black raspberries, with deeper notes of fresh sanguine earth coming through. The palate is full-bodied yet restrained, with a detailed structure and length with a mountainous feel. It’s a great lens into the range they produce here at Bedrock and a tremendous value. Aged for a year in foudre then moved to demi-muids, the 2022 Côte Rôtie Les Journaries (known by the Maestria name in Europe) comes from the Landonne and Côte Rozier lieux-dits and was not destemmed. It has a similar perfume to the Amethyste with its red, blue, and black fruits as well as rose, potpourri, and peppery notes, yet it's more seamless, full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and has a great finish. The 2022 Cote Rotie Les Journaries (as it is known in the USA but called Mastria elsewhere) unveils a deep, complex bouquet of cassis, spices and dark wild berries intertwined with delicate notes of dark cherries and black olives. Full-bodied, broad and sappy on entry, it's textured and layered, with a seamless, pure core of fruit, powdery tannins and bright acids. It culminates in a long, ethereal and dark berry-inflected finish. Originating from vines situated in the western part of La Landonne (Côte Blonde and Côte Rozier), this exquisite wine masterfully combines a sappy, velvety texture with a racy density.

Slightly darker, deeper and less ethereal on the nose than usual, the 2020 Las Umbrías has a lot of grip on the palate and is an earthier vintage of Umbrías, not the ethereal wine like the 2018, despite being the year with less alcohol (13.5%). It was a high-yielding year, and they picked the grapes during heavy rain, so they had to dry the grapes with warm air before putting them in the vat. Umbrías is possibly their most fragile grand cru, and it suffers under certain conditions. It seems to have suffered a bit in 2020, but it still has the elegance of Umbrías, the iron-like sensations from Rozas de Puerto Real and the balance and subtleness in a more earthy way. 2,559 bottles and 40 magnums were filled in March 2022. 2023-2030
