2019 Francesco Rinaldi Barolo Cannubi Riserva Nebbiolo from Italy
#148644 750 mL
2019 Francesco Rinaldi Barolo Cannubi Riserva
98 Kerin O'Keefe - kerinokeefe.com
Rose, violet, perfumed berry and pine forest aromas beguile on the super fragrant Francesco Rinaldi 2019 Cannubi Riserva. Loaded with elegance and utterly delicious, the stunning palate presents succulent red cherry, spiced pomegranate, orange zest, star anise and cinnamon alongside vibrant acidity. Firm but ultra-refined tannins provide support. A great expression of this hallowed site's celebrated elegance and energy, it's also a wonderful representation of the vintage and at the moment is youthfully austere so give it time to bloom into the beauty it will become. Drink 2034–2049

Only made in the best vintages, the Francesco Rinaldi & Figli 2019 Barolo Riserva Cannubi reveals medium-rich concentration with more color intensity than is typical of this vintage. Nebbiolo from 2019 tends to lean into purple and dark fruits and more generous flavors. Fruit comes from the highest part of the Cannubi Boschis block, with sandy soils at 300 meters in elevation. This Riserva is aged in oak for 42 months. Only 3,300 bottles are made from this half-hectare plot.

2022 Bouchard Pere & Fils 1er Cru Beaune Greves Vigne De L'enfant Jesus Pinot Noir from France

2022 Bouchard Pere & Fils 1er Cru Beaune Greves Vigne De L'enfant Jesus
96 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Often consumers expect a great Burgundy to be a dramatic and showy wine. This is an ideal example of how Burgundian greatness often expresses itself more gently. The harmony of red-fruit character with superfine tannins, plus excellent concentration and really silky tannins on the medium-bodied palate marks this out as a truly exceptional wine for the appellation. Delicious though it is now, try to give it some time in the glass to reveal its delicately spicy mystery. From a 3.9 hectare parcel in the middle of the slope of the 1er Cru Greves, where there's never any hydric stress. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Stuart Pigott Senior Editor
96 Charles Curtis MW - Decanter
The 2022 Baby Jesus is a wine of gorgeous intensity, with alluringly ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with notes of peony and spice. The forward fruits continue on the palate as intensely sweet and silky, with a density and grip that are only apparent with time. The grapes are from nearly four hectares of vines, although only the oldest vines and most concentrated fruit are used for this bottling, with some declassified into Beaune du Château. This wine will open in five to seven years and should easily drink for 30 more after the harvest.
93-95 Jasper Morris, MW - Inside Burgundy
More crimson than purple, with notably more presence than the other Beaunes. A range of fruits finishing with some black cherry after the dark red berries, a heightened intensity of fruit, with an excellent balance between tannin and acidity, and notable length. Not racked but has retained purity. Drink from 2030-2038.
92-94 William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus is lovely, wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries, spices, violets and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, broad and enveloping, with a fleshy attack that segues into a refined, mineral palate and a saline finish, it's a benchmark for the appellation.
91-94 Allen Meadows - Burghound
Note: from a huge 4-ha parcel. A slightly riper but brooding nose only grudgingly reveals it aromas of dark berries, earth and a whiff of leather. The noticeably denser medium-bodied flavors are at once caressing but powerful with both mouthcoating sap and tannins on the robust, serious and built-to-age finish. This excellent effort also always needs time in bottle and 2022 will again be no different.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!

2023 Jean & Sebastien Dauvissat Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses
Here the wood influence is no longer subtle though it stops short of dominating the ripe and fresh green fruit, quinine and oyster shell-suffused nose. There is exceptionally good richness to the bigger and more powerful but not necessarily denser flavors that possess a finer mouthfeel before culminating in an impressively long finish where the wood resurfaces. This is perhaps not quite as elegant as it usually is but I like both the depth and persistence.

Concentrated but not weighty, this has an ethereal quality to its attractive licorice, cherry pie and fragrant incense notes, shored up with chalky tannins and a dusting of graphite that offsets the warmth. Beautifully textured, with bitter plum and mineral notes alternating with holiday spices and apple wood smoke stretching out across the finish. 87-89 Neal Martin - Vinous Media
The 2022 Pernand Vergelesses Rouge Les Fichots 1e Cru has a backward nose that needs encouragement in the glass, revealing dark berry fruit mixed with graphite and a whiff of gunpowder (that smell you get after a firework has taken off). The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy entry and moderate depth. This is lightly spiced, with an earthy finish that doesn't quite deliver the panache of Rollin's Les Cloux tasted alongside. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London.

2020 Vega Sicilia Valbuena Ribera Del Duero Tempranillo / Tinto Fino / Tinta Roriz from Spain
#148419 750 mL
2020 Vega Sicilia Valbuena Ribera Del Duero
95 Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Valbuena is from a year marked by COVID-19 and lots of rain before the harvest, which resulted in a more ethereal wine, with 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.9 and 4.45 grams of acidity. It was produced with 97% Tinto Fino and 3% Merlot, cooled down for 24 hours and then fermented with indigenous yeasts from a pied de cuve in stainless steel. It matured in barrel and oak vats during the first year, and in the second one, it aged exclusively in oak vats of different sizes, 8,500 and 21,000 liters. In 2020, the wine is finer-boned, more fluid and only medium-bodied, perhaps because of the dilution from the rain; the tannins are fine-grained and polished, but there's less juiciness in the wine. It calls for food. With time in the glass, the wine opens up and becomes more aromatic, and it even seems to gain juiciness and change texture. This is a production of 186,286 bottles, 5,673 magnums and some larger formats. It was bottled in May 2023.
95 JoaquÃn Hidalgo - Vinous Media
The 2020 Valbuena 5º is Tinta del PaÃs from Ribera del Duero. Balsamic and herbal aromas mingle with forest, red fruit, cherry, violet and a hint of apple peel on the nose. The palate is intense, with a velvety texture, moderate concentration and enveloping flow. Chalky tannins and a touch of creaminess define the structure. Ample and richly flavored, with subtle oak in the background. A fine example of elegant Ribera.

2019 Dvo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend from United States

2019 Dvo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
100 California Wine Advisors
"The 2019 DVO (Dalla Valle Ornellaia) is a tour-de-force and wins our vote as ‘most likely to succeed’ new player on Napa’s Cult Cabernet scene! 2019 is only the second public release and is a proprietary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, demonstrating how well these two grapes blend together when crafted by two brilliant winemakers. Maya Dalla Valle’s eponymous Cult Cabernet blend (also features Cabernet Franc) is one of California’s original five Cult wines and Axel Heinz is world-renowned for his craftsmanship at Italy’s Ornellaia and Massetto. The alluring bouquet shows fresh spring flowers, blueberry, raspberry, a hint of vanilla and subtle pipe tobacco in the background. Those delightful flavors continue and dance across the palate alongside semi-sweet cocoa, dark cherry, baking spices, and graphite. This is pure genius and a profoundly delicious cuvée, not only showcasing the talents of its makers, but the brilliance and freshness of 2019. We recommend decanting (minimum 30 minutes) if you pop a cork prior to 2025. Worthy of 99 points now, this thoroughbred will provide an exhilarating race through 2040 and could very well merit a triple digit score along the way. Bravo! (November 2022)"
99 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
I was blown away by the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon DVO, a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc made as a collaboration between the team at Dalla Valle and Ornellaia. Remarkable notes of red and black currants, spring flowers, lead pencil, loamy earth, and classy oak all emerge from this young yet amazingly balanced, seamless Cabernet. Full-bodied on the palate and perfectly balanced, with silky tannins, it will probably be as good as it gets with 7-8 years of bottle age and is a magical Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that will evolve for 30 years or more.
98 Lisa Perrotti-Brown - The Wine Independent
This is the second vintage of this new joint project between Ornellaia in Tuscany and Dalla Valle in Napa Valley. This year’s blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, and the contributing sites are similar to last year, based around the AVAs of Oakville, Mount Veeder, and Coombsville. Very deep purple-black in color, the 2019 DVO has a wonderfully perfumed nose of lilacs, red roses, and stewed black tea over a core of red currant jelly, black raspberries, plum preserves, and clove oil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid line of very fine-grained tannins supporting the rich, perfumed black fruits, contrasted by crunchy red berries that deliver well-knit freshness. It finishes very long and layered. 550 cases were made.
98 Jonathan Cristaldi - Decanter Magazine
Only the second release of this collaboration project between Dalla Valle Vineyards of Napa Valley and Ornellaia of Tuscany. A glass-staining dark ruby colour. Gorgeous red berry fruit aromas, white pepper, lavender, graphite, tobacco and sweet cedar. Full-bodied with immense concentration and exuding sweet black fruit and cassis, fragrant wild herbs, palate-etching pixelated tannins that build and build, layered by fractured slate, cocoa nibs, black olives and a long cedar-kissed finish. A magnificent youthful wine built for long-term cellaring.

100 William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Mouton Rothschild is a striking wine and one that I regretted not purchasing en primeur as soon as it landed in my glass. Offering up complex aromas of minty cassis, pencil shavings, loamy soil, cigar wrapper, espresso roast and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and layered, with terrific concentrated, beautifully refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Checking in at 12.8% alcohol, its incipient complexity, ineffable sense of completeness and exquisite balance mark it out as the purists' choice among the trio of 2018, 2019 and 2020. In this vintage, the lots that made it into the blend were largely confined to the core gravel terroirs that represent Mouton's heart, meaning that there's a little less to go around. This was the first vintage overseen by Mouton's new technical director, Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy, and he has begun with a flying start.
100 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
The purity of blackcurrants, blueberries, creme de cassis, and flowers. Hints of subtle spearmint. Iron. Blood orange. Medium-bodied with a compacted palate, like a cylinder of perfectly ripe fruit and fine tannins. A million layers of tight-grained tannins. It goes on and on. Such freshness and weightlessness to it. Ethereal. New classicism. Modern take on the 1986. 12.79% alcohol. 84% cabernet sauvignon, 13% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. Drink after 2030 but hard to not drink now.
100 Georgina Hindle - Decanter
Dark fruits on the nose, blackcurrants and cherries with savoury nuances of dark chocolate and tobacco. Fresh and forward on the palate, this hits you square on, still very lean and direct, almost piercing and severe in its intensity and drive, though wonderfully precise: it’s like an arrow. Serious and focussed yet full and layered, the texture is lovely, a slight graininess that lingers but it’s the acidity and the fruit purity that are so excellent - they give such a sense of vibrancy and make this wine so thrilling. You get a feeling of pent-up energy, but after a few minutes the slight density of the ripe fruit comes through, giving some plushness and weight. I love the Cabernet details and the mineral element that leaves the mouth cool and fresh. A well constructed, subtle beauty.
99 Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Intense, concentrated, powerful, deeply spiced, fleshy but restrained, this inches open and feels vibrant, pure, chiselled, seamless, with an electric charge. Expect plenty of smoked and grilled cassis, bilberry and damson fruits, sandalwood and mint leaf. Has the 2020 signature where flavours are classically serious and balanced but intense, just a monumental Mouton with the freshness and architecture of 2016, edged with floral aromatics, wonderfully enticing and with presence. 100% new oak. First vintage for Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy as director, following Philippe Dhalluin's retirement. One of the wines of the vintage.
99 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2020 Mouton Rothschild is very clearly one of the great, great wines of the Left Bank in 2020. All the elements are in perfect balance. A wine of total sensuality and nuance, Mouton is all finesse in 2020, all elegance. An explosion of dark cherry fruit, plum, pomegranate, mint and cinnamon are all amplified. From barrel, the 2020 Mouton hinted at greatness. Today, that greatness is evident. The rich, vibrant finish is a thing of beauty.
99 Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Truffles, cigar box, cedar chest, smoke, Cuban cigar wrapper, spice and dark, almost 100% cocoa, chocolate. Perfectly perched between its elegant and showy side, the fruits are silky, ripe, spicy, and intense, but in a relaxed manner. There is purity, length, and vibrancy, giving the wine a racy, sensuous appearance. The seamless finish is perfectly balanced, with all its layers of polished, sensuous, silky fruits. The wine blends 84% Cabernet Sauvignon,13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, 13.1% ABV, pH 3.8. Yields were low at 32 hectoliters per hectare with only 49% of the harvest going into the Grand Vin, so not much wine was made. The harvest took place September 7-September 24. Drink 2028-2060

"Christian Seely recently introduced this wine in New York as a rethinking of the super-premium, multivintage Porto style. Black replaces LB, Noval's former entry in this range, and uses top-quality fruit to create a soft, accommodating texture. The aromas are purple-black while the flavors are pure black cherry. Acidity spices it up and adds to the juiciness of the finish. It's plump in the middle and supple all the way through, ending on fruit-skin tannin and a touch of chocolate from oak. At the level of many of the region's best LBVs, this wine may become a staple for a new generation of Port drinkers."
