"The 2022 Blanc d'Orto Brisat differs from the regular Blanc d'Orto in the skin contact, which here is 21 days in stainless steel, and the wine matured in used 500-liter barrels for six months. Furthermore, this was selected from a specific plot planted in 1948, and the wine has more balanced parameters, 13.55% alcohol, a pH of 3.42 and 4.8 grams of acidity. In my book, if you do skin contact, this is the way to do it, not overpowering the wine, adding nuance, weight and complexity but keeping the DNA of the grape and the place. Well done, guys! 1,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in the spring of 2024."

"The super young, pale and delicate rosé 2025 Rosado was produced with more than 60% Garnacha (perhaps a little more this year, which was a very good vintage for the variety) and the rest Viura, mainly from the Alto Najerilla zone of Rioja, where the soils have a mix of clay, limestone and iron that give them an intense red color, but the wine is still a pale pink. The must fermented in small oak vats for 15 to 20 days at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and was kept with lees that were worked for three months before bottling. It has 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.19 and 6.02 grams of acidity, great parameters for freshness, and is still a bit reductive. This was just bottled a few weeks ago, but it should be better in just a couple of months. It has a core of rose petals and chalk, while the palate is where you have to pay attention. They got very good Garnacha in 2025, and the grapes were picked at the right time to get a balance between alcohol, freshness and acidity. It's not a small production, as 305,000 bottles were filled in February 2026."

From down near Hopewell on an east-facing slope, the 2021 Pinot Noir Elton Vineyard takes on a touch more pigment in its deep, transparent ruby hue and would benefit from decanting if drinking early, as it has a touch of reduction on opening. It opens to reveal a floral perfume of violets, black raspberry coulis, black pepper spice, and a hint of blue fruit shining through. Rounded and medium to full-bodied, though elegant and graceful, pure fruit fills the palate, and its floral perfume lasts through the finish. Also offering ripe tannins and a long finish with a hint of warming spice on the back, it’s another age-worthy wine to enjoy over the next 10-12 years. This site is currently being converted to organic viticulture.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Elton Vineyard is decidedly dark and mineral in character, blending crushed ashen stones with black olive nuances, wilted violets, hints of cola and crushed wild strawberries. Silky textures are contrasted by tart wild berry depths and saline-tinged acidity, saturating and enlivening the palate. Grippy and long, yet still mouth-watering, the 2021 Elton finishes potent and structured. It leaves a coating of fine-grained tannins, adding a classically dry sensation. The 2021 Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains is a peek at the stellar produce of Rhys's 2021 single-vineyard white wines. The nose opens with fresh, racy aromas of sea spray, lemon curd and Granny Smith apple. The mid-palate displays a level of creamy richness that takes substantial cellaring to unlock in the rest of the lineup. The signature tension and angularity of the Rhys style are present, albeit with a welcomed softness and generosity of texture. Readers holding this admirable array of wines should start here and hold off on the single-site wines for at least a few more years.
