2022 Jose Gil Rioja La Bastida Blend from Spain
#142543 750 mL
2022 Jose Gil Rioja La Bastida
92 Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
I also tasted the 2022 Viñedos en Labastida. The wines are produced in a similar way to highlight the differences of the places and vintages. In 2022, it's a similar blend of different plots with some 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% white grapes, and it had a similar vinification and élevage in 500- and 600-liter oak foudres in their cave. It's very primary and fruit-driven, with a nose of ripe berries and herbs, a lactic twist and a fine thread in the palate, with surprisingly fine tannins for a 2022. 3,600 bottles were filled in September 2023.

2017 Lopez De Heredia Cubillo Crianza Tempranillo / Tinto Fino / Tinta Roriz from Spain
#147115 750 mL
2017 Lopez De Heredia Cubillo Crianza
93 Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The super bargain of the portfolio has to be the red 2017 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza, which this year shows more development and faster aging, with more tertiary notes than the other reds from 2013 and 2014 that I tasted next to it. The frost of April 2017 killed 100% of the vegetal mass at Cubillo, and the grapes they picked were exclusively from the second generation, therefore fruit that ripened in a much shorter cycle, as the harvest was also earlier. It has notes of damp earth, mushrooms, truffles and forest floor, dry leaves and decayed flowers and herbs. It has a polished palate and is medium-bodied, with mostly resolved tannins, and it feels a little lighter. But it's still worth it. It was produced with a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 5% each Graciano and Mazuelo from vines averaging 53 years of age. It fermented in their old oak vats and matured in used American oak barrels for three+ years. It has 13.5% alcohol, a 3.0 pH and 6.5 grams of acidity. 90,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2023.

2023 Connetable De Talbot Saint Julien Blend from France
#151784 750 mL
2023 Connetable De Talbot Saint Julien
89-91 William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"A strong effort, the 2023 Connetable de Talbot reveals aromas of plums, berries, dark chocolate and pipe tobacco, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and mouth-filling palate. It will offer a broad and satisfying drinking window."
89 Georgina Hindle - Decanter
"Slightly high toned and a bit tight with prominent tannins although there’s nothing harsh here just some compaction right now. Pure blackcurrant and a dash of liquorice. Nice acidity and a long length with a stony finish. Not a bad effort."

2023 Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley
94 Wine Spectator
A distinctive white, with fleshy mango, peach and apricot flavors at the core, plus notes of candied ginger, lemon curd and candied kumquat. Floral details, herbal accents and a drizzle of honey linger on the finish. Drink now. 18,000 cases made.
91 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc (Russian River Valley) is classy and polished to the core. Citrus peel, marzipan, white flowers and light tropical inflections all grace this aromatic, beautifully perfumed Sauvignon Blanc from Merry Edwards.

#138542 750 mL
2021 Kongsgaard Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
92 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a dense, brooding wine. Swaths of mountain tannin wrap around a core of dark red-toned fruit, iron, savory herbs and graphite. The blend is approximately 50% estate and 50% neighbor fruit, including 20% Merlot. This is an especially reticent 2021, but, then again, we are on Atlas Peak. Give this time.

2023 Pisoni Estate Vineyard Chardonnay Chardonnay from United States
#150901 750 mL
2023 Pisoni Estate Vineyard Chardonnay
97 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
Medium gold-hued, with subtle but deep aromatics, the 2023 Chardonnay offers rich notes of orchard fruits, creamed corn, crushed stone, and exotic flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it has a pure, layered mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a gorgeous finish. This incredibly impressive SLH Chardonnay will keep for 10-12 years. Aged 17 months in 40% new French oak, it benefits from air if drinking any time soon.
96 Billy Norris - Vinous Media
The 2023 Chardonnay is a powerful, super-phenolic, almost chewy white, but all of that texture is bedded on a base layer of crystal-clear, supple, super-ripe golden orchard fruit. Flint, orange zest, chamomile and yellow apple flesh out magnificently into a long, expansive finish that’s propelled by calibrated acidity. This is an unashamedly large-scaled Chardonnay, but it’s finessed through and through. A 17-month stay in 40% new French oak built loads of creamy texture and spicy complexity into the wine’s frame. The 2023 is a total showstopper.

2021 Flora Springs Trilogy Blend from United States
#151248 750 mL
2021 Flora Springs Trilogy
94 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
The flagship 2021 Trilogy from this estate checks in as 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, and the rest Malbec, all raised in mostly (all?) new oak. This medium to full-bodied, ripe, concentrated, satisfying effort has lots of blueberry and darker raspberry-like fruit, some chocolaty oak and dusty minerality, ripe tannins, and a great finish. I love its overall balance, it has notable purity, and I see no reason it shouldn't evolve for 15-20 years.
93 Joe Czerwinski - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, Flora Springs's 2021 Trilogy offers up an intriguing bouquet of ripe cherries, fine sandalwood and a hint of mint too. While not a huge blockbuster wine, it's medium to full-bodied, nicely proportioned and silky in feel, with a lingering finish.
