Delicious, bright, fresh, youthful and ready. Aromas and flavours of fresh brown pears and yellow apple, there’s a layer of white spice and honeysuckle, lees and florals. Youthful on the palate, dry with a decent squeeze from acidity and leesy spice highlights, a contrasting tickle of residual sweetness balances the palate and flavours immediately lengthening the impacts of structure and fruit flavours. Nicely framed and tasty with honeysuckle and core pomaceous fruit flavours. Best from late 2025 through 2029.

White nectarines, quince and lemons on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with focused acidity, giving notes of orange rind, ginger root and mandarins. Balanced and fresh. Drink now. Screw cap

97 Decanter
This blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot was fermented in stainless steel with a small percentage of whole berries included. Winemaker Mark Fasi explains that pressing off the wine before it goes dry helps to soften the tannins. The wine is then aged 18–20 months in approximately 50% new French oak. The Paradigm Cabernet Sauvignons are medium-bodied and exude utmost elegance, showcasing soaring tannins that are assertive yet beautifully integrated and framed by crisp, juicy acidity. The palate reveals pure and gorgeous red berry fruit, complemented by a panoply of brown spices, wild herbs like sage, and floral notes of lilacs and violets. This wine is absolutely pure, brimming with energy and tension, and delivers a stunningly refined expression. A remarkable effort, embodying balance, vitality, and sophistication. Truly impressive. The winemaker is legendary Napa icon Heidi Barrett. Mark Fasi, who joined the winery in 2010 and has worked hand-in-hand with Barrett, takes the helm as winemaker with the 2023 vintage.

95 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Wild-strawberry, blackberry and blueberry aromas with some spices and herbs. It’s full-bodied with a balance of firm yet elegant tannins. The savory mid-palate leads to a clean finale with serious length. Hard not to drink this now, but it needs four or five years to show its true excellence. Second wine of Angelus. Try after 2025.
94 Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
An excellent vintage at this St Emilion First Growth, but the main wine is nowhere near ready to approach. I suggest looking instead at the second wine, Le Carillon d'Angélus. Expect stewed spiced plums, raspbery and black cherry fleshy fruits, and a ton of smoked earth, liqourice and slate. Still young at three years old, this will deliver already with a good few hours in a carafe but there is no rush to open. 50% new oak. The first vintage that includes the newly-expanded vineyard footprint, with plots in St Christophe de Bardes and a large area near Cheval Blanc and Figeac.
93 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com
I loved the 2018 Carillon D'Angélus. This Merlot-dominated blend (there's 15% Cabernet Franc) offers a healthy ruby/purple color as well as a complex, smoky bouquet of ripe black fruits, graphite, tobacco, and a kiss of earth. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it has a sexy, seamless texture, polished tannins, and the class to drink nicely for 15 years or more.

93 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2022 Chardonnay is creamy, ample and super-expressive. The 2022 spent 17 months in French oak, about 40% new. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and a gentle kiss of French oak infuse the Chardonnay with tons of character, offering lovely texture while retaining tons of freshness. It's a terrific wine, especially for the year.

2022 Merry Edwards Richaven Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
96 Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2022 Pinot Noir Richaven is super-impressive. Rich, sumptuous and explosive, the 2022 is the most overt wine in this range. It's a style that works so well in exalting the natural exuberance of the Russian River. Dark fruit, mocha, licorice, incense and mocha all build into the dense, palate-staining finish. There's not much subtlety there, but that does not seem to be the goal, nor does it matter, to be honest.

92 John Gilman - View from the Cellar
“2023 Vacqueyras “Les 2 Monardes”- Domaine Monardière As I mentioned last year, the Vache family purchased this estate in 1987 and converted their vineyards over to organic farming in 2000. All of their vineyards are harvested by hand and their Vacqueyras “Les 2 Monardes” cuvée is made from a cépages of seventy percent grenache and thirty percent syrah. The vines that go into this bottling are forty years of age, with the bunches are destemmed and the wine fermented with native yeasts, prior to twelve months of élevage in a combination of tanks and used barrels. The 2023 Les 2 Monardes comes in at a svelte 13.5 percent octane in this vintage and delivers a simply superb bouquet of dark berries, grilled meats, pepper, bonfire, dark soil tones and a nice touch of upper register garrigue. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with an excellent core of fruit, firm, well-integrated tannins, fine balance and a long, promising finish. The wine will demand a few years in the cellar to soften up and blossom, but it is going to be excellent.”

The just-bottled 2024 Phyllit Sauvignon Blanc is pure, fresh, crystalline and saline on the elegant and laser-precise nose that intermingles bright stone and passion fruit with cumin and saline notes of crushed slate. Round and intense on the palate, this is a medium- to full-bodied, juicy and textural Sauvignon with fine tannins and a certain power on the finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in April 2025.
