A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Thieuley shows an elegant, more complex bouquet than its 2018 counterpart, exhibiting aromas of dark berries, pencil lead, licorice and menthol, followed by a medium to full-bodied, juicy and enveloping palate that’s framed by powdery tannins. Seamless and already nicely integrated, this vintage can be approached with pleasure, even if has four or five year of evolution ahead of it.

The pale red 2023 Dr. Bruno Clarete Baga was produced with grapes from 25-year-old vines in Vilarinho do Bairro as a collaboration with Bairrada producer Quinta da Lagoa Velha, fermented and aged exclusively in concrete. It has a perfumed nose with shy notes of dry roses and tar, varietal, expressive and clean. It's medium-bodied and has contained ripeness and 12% alcohol. It's tasty, has very fine tannins and is surprisingly elegant and highly drinkable. It took me to Piamonte... 4,000 bottles produced.

Ripe black fruits, pepper, leather, and spring flower notes all emerge from the 2019 Syrah Coastview Vineyard Terraces, a hidden gem of a Syrah that has more than a passing resemblance to a great Côte Rôtie. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, with a great mid-palate and ripe tannins, it's one of the standouts in this lineup. It will unquestionably evolve for 10-15 years.

Aromas of ginger, coconut and vanilla are tempered by this Albariño's absolutely hunger-pang-inducing note of salt and vinegar potato chips. The wine's airy texture and tingly acidity nicely complement its flavors of lemon and rosemary. There is also a difficult-to-identify tangy note hanging out here. It might be bread pickles, it could be fresh dill.
