The Cinquante-Cinq brand was launched in 2002 as a result of a collaboration between T. Edward Wines and Marc Pichon, a winemaker from Vaucluse. Their shared ambition was to offer a range of varietal wines from the Pays d’Oc that were authentic and consistent, competitively priced, and supportive of the region's responsible growers. Named after the French term for fifty-five, "Cinquante-Cinq" was chosen because the inaugural release of Sauvignon Blanc came from a single plot with fifty-five rows of vines. The brand expanded gradually as they identified additional quality producers in the region who aligned with their principles and aspirations. The brand's growth was also attributed to astute buyers who appreciated the wines' integrity and value. Currently, T. Edward Wines collaborates with a dozen growers from Pays d’Oc to produce three Cinquante-Cinq wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Chardonnay. In 2016, the untimely passing of Marc Pichon prompted T. Edward Wines to reminisce about the numerous esteemed winemakers they had encountered through Pichon, as well as the various ventures they had undertaken together, with Cinquante-Cinq being among the earliest. Following Marc's death, his sister Veronique stepped in to continue his legacy at the winery. In honor of Marc's dynamic life, T. Edward Wines decided to revitalize the brand, introducing a new label featuring a peaceful bird perched on a branch against a backdrop of a beautifully hued sky, as a homage to their friend who was gone too soon.
