A red blend made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Syrah, aged for 18 months in oak casks and barrels. It displays ripe red and black fruits enveloped by floral, menthol, and sweet spice notes, which are confirmed on the palate. It stands out for its overall balance, with fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity dictating the rules. Refined, it has a full and persistent finish with earthy and plum touches. Alcohol 14.5%.

Product Description:

Herdade do Mouchão is a historic wine producer, found in Alentejo, Portugal. It produces an extensive portfolio of wines including fortified and brandies as well as a selection of olive oil and wild honey from the estate. The estate was founded by Thomas Reynolds who arrived in Porto in 1824 and promptly established the export company Thomas Reynolds & Sons. In 1832, the cork business drew Reynolds across to Alentjo and what is known as the Herdade do Mouchão estate today, was one of the numerous estates where Reynolds cultivated Quercus suber, the evergreen oak tree for cork. Three generations later, grandchild John Reynolds extensively planted grapevines for wine production in 1901. Today, 45 hectares (111 acres) of vineyards at Herdade do Mouchão are planted to Syrah, Trincadeira, and Touriga Nacional with Alicante Bouschet composing around half of the vines. All grapes are hand-picked to preserve integrity. The flagship of the Herdade do Mouchão wine portfolio is the Mouchão Tonel No 3-4 Red. The varietal Alicante Bouschet is fermented in large stone lagares prior to aging in old barrels made of chestnut and oak staves with macacauba and mahogany bases for four to five years. Other table wines include the Ponte Mouchão Red, the Dom Rafael Red, and the Mouchão Red. As the most recently launched brand, Ponte Mouchão, the estate's top-of-the-line blended wine, has already won over a wide range of admirers. Following Mouchão's ancestral winemaking techniques, with hand-harvesting and foot-treading in lagares, it is aged in used French oak barrels and old casks for 18 months, then aged for another 18 months in bottle before being released to the market. This wine is surprising, as aromatic and elegant as it is intense and structured, irreverent and full of personality.
