100% Riesling from Alsace, made by Arthur Ostertag, from a tiny 0.8 hectare Pflanzer parcel with 35-year-old vines, grown on quartz, sandstone, clay, and marl, aged 20 months in stainless steel, certified biodynamic, and 13.5% ABV. Kermit’s note calls it a Riesling with “stony depth,” and explains that Pflanzer means “the planter,” originally used as a vine nursery because of its fertile, well-ventilated soil.
Tasting Note:
The 2022 Domaine Ostertag Riesling “Le Berceau” Lieu-Dit Pflanzer is a beautifully precise Alsatian Riesling built more on texture, stone, and quiet intensity than obvious fruit. The nose opens with lemon zest, white flowers, green apple, crushed stone, and a subtle herbal edge. On the palate, it is dry, focused, and deeply mineral, with citrus peel, wet stone, orchard fruit, and a faint savory spice note. The long stainless-steel aging gives it a little extra weight and polish, while the Riesling acidity keeps everything clean, lifted, and energetic. This is not a simple porch-pounder Riesling. It is serious, terroir-driven Alsace with real cut, depth, and food versatility.
