About

"The new release of Gatinois' Brut Rosé is stunning. As has been the case in previous iterations of this fine bottling, the cépages is ninety percent pinot noir and ten percent chardonnay, with the wine aged three years on the lees prior to disgorgement. About seven percent of the blend is from still pinot noir, which the family takes from a small parcel of more than sixty year-old vines. The beautifully elegant bouquet on this wine delivers a blend of cherries, tangerine, gentle notes of cinnamon, fresh-baked bread, chalky soil tones, caraway seed and a topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, young and complex, with a superb core of fruit, very refined mousse, brisk acids and simply outstanding length and grip on the focused and still fairly young finish. I have had many great examples of the Gatinois Brut Rosé, but the current release may well be the finest I have yet had the pleasure to taste and you can rest assured that some of this beautiful wine will be going into my cellar. I would give this superb wine at least another year of bottle age to really let it develop its secondary layers of complexity- it should prove to be very long-lived and stunning down the road. 2014-2030." "Quite firm, with chalky texture and a steely backbone of acidity, this is well-balanced, displaying flavors of white cherry, almond skin, biscuit, apple and ground ginger. Enjoy this structured version with prosciutto or other salumi. Disgorged December 2012. Drink now through 2018. 580 cases made. -AN" (11/13)

"The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is another gorgeous Champagne from Gatinois. Here, too, the chalkiness of Aÿ is quite evident, especially in the wine's long, silky finish. Sweet red berries, crushed rocks, petals and cinnamon are all layered together in a medium-bodied Rosé loaded with personality. Quite simply this is an impeccable bottle. The Rosé is based on the 2009 vintage, with the addition of 30% reserve wines from 2008 and 2007. This bottle was disgorged in February 2013. Dosage was 6 grams per liter." (11/13)

90 Allen Meadows - Burghound

"Classic oeil de perdrix color. A fruity but not simple nose of strawberries, raspberries and cherries introduces very crisp and clean flavors that are supported by a firm mousse that culminates in a focused and moderately dry finish that offers impressively good length if not quite the same complexity of the Tradition."
