100% destemmed, 20% new wood, one new barrel in five. More lees were retained for the elevage, to add a reductive character so as to delay the need to add sulphur. A fine mid purple. The nose remains on the reductive side. Good tension and much cleaner fruit on the palate, with fine persistence. Drink from 2030-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.
Product Description:
Domaine Clerget (known also as Domaine Yvon Clerget or officially Domaine Y. Clerget) is a wine producer based in the village of Volnay in the Côte de Beaune subergion of Burgundy. The domaine has multiple holdings throughout Volnay and neighboring appellations, primarily producing red, Pinot Noir based, wines. The Clerget family can trace its winegrowing roots back to the 13th Century and although production was mothballed by the eponymous Yvon Clerget (current winemaker Thibaud Clerget's father) when he retired in 2009. Until Thibaud's revival of the domaine in 2015, fruit from the family holdings was sold to Henri Boillot. Clerget boasts a number of top vineyard holdings in Volnay, headed-up by the flagship Premier Cru monopole Clos du Verseuil. Other Volnay plots include Les Caillerets, Carelle Sous La Chapelle and Santenots as well as plots in Pommard's Les Rugiens and a 0.3 hectare (0.7 acre) holding in the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. The domaine has just under two hectares (five acres) of village-level Volnay and a small volume of standard Bourgogne vines. A plot in neighboring Meursault (in the village-level Les Chevalières vineyard) completes the range (and remains so far the only Chardonnay wine in the portfolio). In 2019, Y.Clerget was also established as a négoce operation and it is possible the domaine will release other wines sourced from growers in the Côte d'Or.
