Located in the heart of the former convent of Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine du Couvent is a family estate, managed by Philippe Chéron and his two sons, Paul and Hugo. With its 10.5 hectares of vineyards situated in the prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, the Domaine offers a true mosaic of parcels. Primarily located in the communes of Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vougeot, but also in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Marsannay-la-Côte, these exceptional lands reveal the full richness of Pinot Noir.
A group of parcels located in the Les Barreaux vineyard, totaling 71 ares. This upper-level vineyard overlooks the Richebourg and is bordered by the Premier Cru vineyards of Cros Parantoux, Petits Monts, and Brulées. Our current vineyard is the result of 15 planting seasons between 1929 and 1977, and therefore boasts a highly diverse range of vines with an average age exceeding 50 years. The planting density is 12,000 vines per hectare, allowing for an average yield of 40 hl/ha. Part of the vineyard faces north, while the other part faces due east, benefiting from exceptional ripening conditions. The thin, sandy, highly calcareous soil (White Oolites zone), the steep slope, and the numerous rocky outcrops make mechanization on this hillside challenging. Harvested primarily from the estate's last parcels and vinified with destemmed grapes, the Barreaux wines are aged in barrels, 15 to 20% of which are new. Vosne Barreaux offers an exceptionally precise and pure style, remarkably ethereal with a refined elegance. Its aging potential is undeniable.
