The 2023 Pinot Noir Silice is layered and seductive, showing black raspberry liqueur, wet stones, toasted spice, cardamom, and black cherries. “Silice” means silica, and this wine comes from forest blocks planted in 2001 on the site with the highest sand content in the soils that they work with. The structure is remarkable, fine, and floating on the palate, with refreshing acidity and an angular, well-defined, gravelly texture to its tannins, which is highly appealing and reminiscent of Nebbiolo in its structure. Drink 2027-2047.

The 2023 Bergström Silice Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Chehalem Mountains is crafted from whole cluster fermentation and matured for 12 months in 15% new French oak. Sourced from vines planted in 2001, it opens with aromas of crushed strawberry, red currant, and rose petal layered over hints of wet slate and dried thyme. The palate is silky and refined, showcasing blood orange, mineral dust, and subtle spice, framed by a saline edge that adds vibrancy. Elegant yet deeply rooted, it flows with precision and poise, hinting at long-term aging potential while already showing impressive integration and charm. 1666 cases made. Highly recommended.
