The Tortochot family has a viticultural history in Gevrey-Chambertin that goes back four generations. This started in the 19th Century with the vigneron Paul Tortochot. The Tortochots became connected with the notable Liébaut family from Morey-Saint-Denis when Paul's son Félix married Louise Liébaut, who aded her family's vineyards in the village to the Tortochot holdings.
The 12-hectare (30-acre) domaine later passed to Félix and Louise's son, Gabriel, who in turn transferred the management of the estate to its current proprietor, his daughter Chantal. Chantal Tortochot-Michel initiated the domine's move towards organic viticulture and in 2013, Domaine Tortochot produced its first vintage of organic-certified wine.
