The 2014 Extra-Brut Mareuil-sur-Aÿ is bright and focused in the glass. Chalk-infused red fruit, white pepper, smoke and dried herbs are all nicely delineated. This is an especially linear style, with good persistence but less intensity on the mid-palate. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy nervy Champagnes. The 2014 is 100% Pinot Noir done entirely in barrel with no malolactic fermentation. I would give this a few years in bottle to see if a bit more mid-palate depth develops. Disgorged: June 2022.
