Product Description:
"Selva della Rocca (Apricena, Foggia} is the name of the place in the Gargano National Park where in the XllI century stood the "Domus di Belvedere». 1his estate, now a national archeological asset, was built by the monastic-military Order of the Teutonic Knights. Attested to is the presence here of the Grand Master, Hermann von Salza, who, in the retinue of Federico II, in 1220 was bestowed with many vineyards. 1he Fegodo di Belvedere was among the farm holdings in the environs of the Gargano, and in the assets census called the Jiif named Bello Vedere.
An analysis of Foggia Archive data on the "Sheep Customhouse" shows how Apricena was one of the areas with the most grape growing land. In the X'VII century in Apulia the Apricena vineyards were second only to those of Canosa as to number, not as to quality of product, and were an excellence in Capitanata during the X'VI century, which can also be ascertained by referring to the XVII century assertion by Archpriest don Antonio Lucchino, in charge of farmland taxation, who wrote prior to 1629 and said, of visiting Apricena, "This land has salubrious air, is temperate, and abounds with vineyards which produce excellent wines, the best in Apulia and much esteemed." - Winery
