"Aromas and flavors of bacon fat and mesquite smoke mix with ripe black cherry, licorice snap, mocha and mint in this expressive red, with fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity. Elegant through to the aromatic, coffee-tinged finish. Nero d'Avola and Syrah. Drink now through 2024. –AN"

"The 2011 Santagostino Baglio Soria is a bold blend of Nero d’Avola and Syrah in equal parts that doles out a long line of resin, tar, smoke, spice, dark chocolate, cola and syrupy espresso. The wine spends eight months in oak and is one of the less-oaked wines in the Firriato line. Nero d’Avola and Syrah is a combination that always works well. This expression is almost over the top in terms of its overall opulence, but it certainly delivers impressive complexity and length at a very attractive price. Drink 2014-2019.

The ultimate Sicilian power couple, Salvatore Di Gaetano and the ever-alluring Vinzia Novara are the brains, brawn and beauty behind one of Sicily’s most successful, but highly individualistic brands. Firriato has always marched to its own drum. They are part of the first wave of bigger companies to invest on Etna, and they are the first to make wine on the arid island of Favignana off the Trapani coastline. The Firriato winemaking style is, to my mind, the most oak-forward and “international” in Sicily today."

Product Description:

"The Baglio Sorìa estate, where the sea breeze caresses the elegant structure of the vineyard, is home to an oenological treasure, one of the best Sicilian red wines in terms of pleasantness and drinkability, rich in fruitiness and elegance, a pioneering blend of international and autochthonous grape varieties. The award-winning Santagostino owes its fame to land that is perfectly suited to producing wines of extraordinary quality and bringing together the Nero d’Avola and Syrah varieties.

It has unbeatable class on the palate and takes its place as a wine with an international profile: velvety smooth, soft and persistent, with dense, caressing and delicate tannins." - Winery

Tasting Notes:
"Deep intense ruby red with lively shades of purple. It affords concentrated, well-defined nuances of marasca cherries, wild berries, rhubarb, cloves, aromatic herbs and prunes that alternate and blend with charming scents of liquorice, ink and tobacco leaves. Suave, soft and caressing, it reveals its great and intensely Mediterranean character admirably blending a powerful and hearty texture, an extraordinary vivacity, silky and fine tannins. It is a wine that has made the history of modern Sicilian wine-making; it is very appreciated by international markets; complex with a superior character; an incredibly pleasant drinking experience with an almost fleshy fruit; a star in its category." - Winery
