Made with 65-year-old vines, the oldest in the entire Lazzarito cru, the compelling Guido Porro 2021 Lazzairasco boasts intense aromas of rose, forest floor, menthol and woodland berry. Always the most austere of the estate's Barolos, the focused, firmly structured palate has great precision, delivering red cherry, raspberry, licorice, orange peel and mentholated notes alongside a backbone of firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it energized and balanced. Drink 2031-2046.

If you can’t get your hands on Guido Porro’s exceptional Vignarionda (or even if you can) the Vigna Lazzairasco is a rewarding and affordable sidestep. It is also produced in more ample quantities – 10,000 bottles. Direct and precise but still very young and austere, it suggests bay leaf, fennel and mint blossom. Blood and iron course through the dark, red berry core. Tannins are steely but well padded. They stretch out and give proper bite. Spicy on the finish, this definitely needs more time.
