"The Hugel 2007 Muscat d’Alsace Tradition – from purchased grapes; two-thirds Ottonel; and subjected to 12 hours of skin contact – smells of basil and sage flower; combines refreshment and grip in a way too few of its genre manage; and finishes with delightfully piquant, not too bitter citrus rind, apricot kernel, and wet stone inflections. Enjoy this inevitably versatile wine over the next 3-4 years. Prompted by the discovery of several amazing old bottles from their estate – to whose quality I can testify – the Hugels have decided to again cultivate a little of their own Muscat, which will soon deliver its first crop.
