98+ Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2017 Troplong Mondot is stunning, just as it was en primeur. Rich and ample, yet endowed with striking energy as well, the 2017 is the first vintage made by new CEO Aymeric de Gironde and consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos. The 2017 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. All of the power that is typical of this site is evident, it seems to come so naturally, and yet picking earlier and then using a lighter hand in the cellar yielded a Troplong of uncommon energy and vibrancy. The 2017 has been nothing short of thrilling on the four occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. What a wine!
97-98 Jonathan Choukroun - Vert de Vin
The nose is aromatic, gourmand, elegant, bewitching, delicate and offers fleshiness, finesse, precision as well as a very beautiful complexity. It reveals notes of fleshy blackberry, fleshy cassis and more slightly blue fruits associated with fine notes of flowers, crushed strawberry, a hint of cornflower, wild raspberry, small wild fruits, chocolate, caramelized oak as well as a fine hint of tonka bean, caramelization, Sichuan pepper, a very discreet hint of cumin/spices and an imperceptible hint of Cuben pepper. The palate is fruity, juicy, elegant, well-balanced, racy, precise, fine and offers gourmandize, a beautiful juiciness, a beautiful precision, tension, a beautiful finesse of the grain, density, dynamism as well as an acid frame. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry, juicy raspberry and more slightly cassis associated with fine touches of cornflowers/lilac, subtle touches of liquorice, caramelization as well as a subtle hint of toasted, almond and sweet spices. Tannins are fine, elegant and slightly fleshy. Good length and beautiful aromatic persistence. Very fine chews/firmness on the finish. There is a very discreet saline hint on the finish/persistence. There is a hint of nut on the aftertaste. (2026+)

Troplong Mondot saw hardly any frost—less than 10%. The 2017 Troplong Mondot is blended of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Very deep purple-black in color, it offers up a cedar chest, cinnamon stick and cloves-laced nose with a core of crème de cassis, blackberry compote and preserved plums plus wafts of licorice, violets and sandalwood. Full-bodied, concentrated and sporting a firm frame of velvety tannins, it has a lively line lifting the densely packed fruit, finishing long and on a compelling savory note.
97 Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Curls of woodsmoke and peony aromatics on the nose here, and slowly but surely you feel the limestone assert itself over the winemaking. This is still a big wine, concentrated and powerful, with cocoa bean, black cherry and sweet raspberry puree fruits, slightly at odds with a vintage that tends to be softer overall than the 2015 and 2016 - but it is excellent, sappy, stands out for all the right reasons. 60% new oak (so a significnaly lower amount than in previous vintages, although still with toasted and charred notes evident). This was the first year under new owners, with Aymeric de Gironde as director and Thomas Duclos consultant, and you can see the stylistic shift. 65% new oak for ageing. Very little affected by the frost that impacted St Emilion this year, with a yield of 45hl/ha, 95% of production used for the main wine.
96 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com
Very perfumed and subtle with crushed currants, smoke and blackberries. Medium to full body. Compressed, round tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and finesse with serious structure for the vintage. It grows slowly on the palate. Really beautiful. Drink after 2022.
96 Roger Voss - Wine Enthusiast
CELLAR SELECTION This wine is structured, with dense tannins as well as impressively ripe black fruit. Showing lifted acidity, succulent blackberry flavors and elegance, it has a good future and will be ready from 2025.
96 Lisa Perrotti-Brown - The Wine Independent
The 2017 Troplong Mondot has a deep garnet color. It is a little closed and reduced to start before slowly unfurling to offer notes of redcurrant jelly, kirsch, and fresh blackberries, with nuances of charcoal, damp soil, and Sichuan pepper. The medium to full-bodied palate is wonderfully bright and tightly knit, with vibrant, crunchy red and black fruits, supported by velvety tannins and great tension, finishing with epic length and energy. CEO Aymeric de Gironde arrived on the first day of the harvest in 2017.
