This is Richard Betts’ new project in Bordeaux where he is working with the estimable Thienpont family responsible for Le Pin, VCC, Larcis Ducasse and Puygueraud, among others. Richard says he’s ‘just’ old enough to remember when Bordeaux wasn’t outrageously expensive and was, instead, drunk and enjoyed on the regular. This is his effort to revive your regular consumption of one of the great wines of the world.
From the Côtes de Francs adjacent Saint Emilion and part of the same plateau, this is nearly entirely Merlot (touch of Cab) aged only in cement for 18 months prior to bottling and aging a further 8 months before release. Intense, complicated and mineral driven, it reflects the clay and limestone soil of the plateau. We think it a very special Bordeaux and priced to be your Tuesday night date.
