"The estate's 2006 Quercegobbe (Merlot) flows from the glass with tons of ripe dark fruit, violets, minerals, tar and smoke. This is a beautifully sculpted, opulent wine bursting with complexity, class and elegance. Everything is in the right place. All the 2006 Quercegobbe needs is time in bottle to develop further nuance. That said, the wine is pretty appealing even at this early stage. This is a wonderful high-class Merlot from Petra. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2021." 94 Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

"This floral red shows blueberry pie character, with vanilla bean undertones. Full-bodied, with supervelvety tannins and a long, beautiful finish. Seamless. Best after 2012. 2,600 cases made. " 92 Points - Wine Spectator

WINE:
Quercegobbe is named after the vineyard that produces it. The vines from which it comes were planted in 1997 in San Lorenzo, close to the cellar, on the edge of the Mediterranean maquis, on the hillside facing the sea. It is an ideal position for Merlot, since this variety has a preference for a ventilated climate and it is also Francesca Moretti’s favourite, where she has chosen to put to good use her team’s intuition, knowledge and skills."

"In Tuscany, as in Val di Cornia, that which is new always has ancient roots: the future of Quercegobbe is already written in the type of soil, which is very similar to the clays of French Pomerol, the kingdom of Merlot. The soil is rich in manganese and metals, brought here by erosion and deposits from the nearby Metalliferous Hills. The result is a wine that is elegant and vigorous at the same time, one which is afforded great care and attention in both the vineyard and cellar."

"The grapes are harvested in the coolest hours of the day and the wine is left to ferment in conical wooden vats at a controlled temperature. At the end of the process, it is refined for 15 months, first in new 600-litre demi-muids and then in barriques. Complete malolactic fermentation takes place during this period. Refinement continues for a further 10 months in the bottle." -Winery

ESTATE:
"Petra is located in Suvereto, inside the Tuscany Maremma area, in San Lorenzo Alto. The estate spreads over 300 hectares and has vineyards, woods and olive-groves growing on it, suggesting a magic landscape almost fading away against the shining surfaces of Tirreno Sea. A territory rich in history and traditions, run across by a sort of path, the Greek culture exploring Mediterranean sea, the evidence of which is clearly tangible with the findings of ancient wine jars. The same path of most valued wines produced in Maremma and sold all over Europe together with iron and other products." -Winery
