Katharina Salzgeber said of 2025, “It was a year without capriciousness and, unlike so many years before, finally one with sufficient rain. We were on top of all the vineyard work and had neither hail nor frost.” Picking started on September 3 for Sekt base, with the main harvest finishing on October 13. We will have to wait awhile to taste the 2025s, because mature and long-aged wines are the chief attraction here. The wines Salzgeber crafts with Nikolaus Saahs are incredibly unique, with enticing saltiness and striking youthfulness.
Product Description:
"Nikolaihof’s holdings are some of the farthest east in the Wachau near the village of Mautern on the Danube’s south bank. These are also some of the oldest known vineyards in Europe with sites such as “im Weingebirge” being mentioned as far back as 470AD. Whether it’s Nikolaus biodynamic know-how, his focus on ancestral vinification techniques, or the quality of his terroir, the resulting wines are wildly unique and joyful. They are singular wines; irreplicable anywhere else in the wine making world."
