Grown on gravelly dry soils in a warm windy microclimate it is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel tank preserving its pure, clean character. Zippy stone fruits, minerality. Zantho is a collaboration of famed winemaker Josef Umathum of Weingut Umathum and Wolfgang Peck of Winzerkeller Andau. They work with long standing contracts that showcase the distinct climate of the Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel region of Burgenland. Lake Neusiedl is a large very shallow lake, bird sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage site that straddles Austria and Hungary. While Burgenland is known for being a wonderful site for ripening traditional red varieties, it also is home to gorgeous Gruner Veltliners and a swath of other refreshing white wines. While these are contracted sites, evidence of their commitment to sustainability are many: wind turbine power utilizing the constant winds from the east, electric vehicles and charging stations onsite further promote clean energy. The results of their efforts are wines of extraordinary value and finesse.
