About

Rating:

97

"From a trailblazing biodynamic producer, this has a paradoxical lightness of touch combined with profound depth. Orange peel, persimmon and pomegranate, with a core of morello cherry and a hint of pine cone. Layers of flavour continue unfolding until, mysteriously, the glass (and then the bottle) is finished. Drink 2017-2036.”

Product Description:

"Only 30 cases imported into the U.S.! The 2011 Corte Sant'Alda Amarone della Valpolicella just received 97 points from Decanter, beating out the big name heavyweights... This is a small production, biodynamic, restrained Amarone (super drinkable for it’s 15.5%) from the 2009 Gambero Rosso “Grower of the Year”, Marinella Camerani.

Corte Sant’Alda’s owner, Marina Camerani, is a bit of an outsider in Valpolicella. She took over her family farm in 1985 and immediately began the conversion to certified organic. Not long after, she began working biodynamically, and the vineyards are now certified by Demeter. She and her partner, Cesar, work 21Ha of vineyards at 400m elevation on red and white limestone (Scala Rossa Veneta and Biancone) in the upper reaches of the Val di Mezzane. Their aim is to produce toothsome bottlings of Soave and Valpolicella, but also fresh and savory versions of Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto. This is a chance to snag a killer, biodynamic Amarone for less than half the price of some of her big competitors (that were scored lower than this wine).

50% Corvina Grossa, 30% Corvina, 20% Rondinella. Natural drying of the grapes from October until the end of January. Fermentation with native yeasts in 40 hectoliter tini (large, upright wooden casks) at cellar temperature with a one month maceration. Aged in 5-25 hectoliter French barriques for about 4 years. No fining or filtration." -Importer
