"The Brut Tradition bottling from Jean-Paul Lancelot hails from a plot of vines in the lieu à dit of Les Monts Aigous in Chouilly, which was planted in 1957, and another in the lieu à dit of Les Monts Chenevaux in Oger that were planted all the way back in 1953. The current release is excellent, delivering a fine bouquet of pear, golden delicious apple, a lovely foundation of chalky minerality, fresh-baked bread, incipient notes of crème patissière, almond and a topnote of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, nascently complex and full, with a rock solid core of fruit, excellent mineral drive, frothy mousse and a long, vibrant and very, very promising finish. This is already quite tasty, but clearly will deliver more with a bit more bottle age and still has a long life ahead of it! Fine, fine juice."

Product Description:

Jean-Paul Lancelot gives the appearance of being just a simple vigneron, man of the earth, French grower harkening back a couple of generations, which is true; however, he is the proud owner of 4 hectares of the greatest vines in Champagne - all 4 hectares in Grand Cru villages Cramant, Avize, Oger and Chouilly. His vines are old, though his Cuvée Traditionelle is comprised of his two oldest sites. One parcel is in Oger, named “Les Monts Chenevaux” planted in 1953; the other in Grand Cru Chouilly, named “Les Monts Aigous” planted in 1957 and adjoining one of Moet’s principal parcels for Dom Perignon. We call this cuvee “Vieilles Vignes”. The rest of their vines in those four Villages go into the cuvee which we call “La Croisee des Terroirs” (or crossing of the terroirs). One could add the word “Grands” here. On top of this, Jean-Paul’s yields are very, very low for Champagne.
