The 2020 Reserva Conde de Vimioso is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Castelão and the rest Aragonez and Trincadeira, all aged for 18 months in a 70/30 mixture of second-use and new French oak. It comes in at 13.9% alcohol. When last seen, this was still nice for the price but a tad under the winery's normal performance and curiously mute. Some extra time in bottle has allowed it to wake up and flesh out. It seems fuller-bodied now but also more interesting in terms of its structure. The tannins are more aggressive (although not hard) and the fruit is more expressive. Compared to my first look at this, it seems like a different wine, so let's assume the first bottle had some issues, whether travel shock or something else. In any event, this is showing well now, and it can still improve if you give it a year or two to develop.
