"The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is an attractive, racy wine with plush fruit, soft contours and tons of sheer immediacy. Sweet red berry fruit, floral notes, spice and mint are all nicely lifted in this enticing, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon from Staglin. The 2017 offers lovely freshness and aromatic presence in a medium-bodied Cabernet that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring."

This packs juicy blackberry and boysenberry flavors together, along with licorice, apple wood and tar notes. On the extracted side, but shows brambly energy throughout for balance. The fruit persists on the finish. Best from 2022 through 2032. 1,700 cases made. — JM

Product Description:

"At first a bit reticent and brooding, with a swirl and a breath of air the 2017 Staglin Cabernet awakens into an energetic cascade of red and black fruit deepened by dollops of earth, resinous woods and pinched herbs. An opening blast of tar inflected boysenberry and black cherry glides into a granular midpalate of star anise infused cassis and molasses-drizzled warm figs complexed with notes of camphor, seasoned alder and hint of hyssop that is surprisingly approachable, finely-grained and imminently enjoyable now." - Winery "Staglin's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is one of the most pleasant surprises of the year. I preferred it slightly over the 2016 for its greater freshness, clarity and better oak integration. Winemaker Fredrik Johansson used only pre-fire lots in the final blend, which along with a gentler approach in extraction, yields a Cabernet of terrific nuance. Staglin's 2017 is a very good example of the style of wine that a freakish year essentially forced on winemakers. I also continue to be impressed with the Chardonnay here. It's easily one of the best in Napa Valley." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
