In Barbanza e Iria, north of Pontevedra, in the sub-appellation of Rias Baixas, lies the small family estate of Boal de Arousa. The wine produced here is from the single, historic parcel, Viña de Louro. Originally the site was chosen for its ideal features, such as soil, with elements of decomposing granite, quartz and clay, orientation, elevation & location - situated 15 meters above sea level on the Atlantic coast. The vineyard had been active for hundreds of years until the phylloxera attack at the end of the 19th Century. In 1985, it was revitalized and re-planted by Anselmo Tarrío and Pura Lamas. The grapes are entirely hand-harvested, vinified in tank and left at least 7 months on the fine lies.
