"Consisting of 80% Grenache - the rest Mourvedre with just a smidgeon of Carignan - the Saint Roch 2008 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Kerbuccio is generously endowed with fresh black raspberry; very ripe yet free of superficial sweetness; and possessed of a sheer juiciness that follows all the way through the wine's long finish, offering a striking contrast in character to its 2009 counterpart. A subtle seeming suffusion of peat and crushed stone in no way precludes textural polish and seamless richness of fruit, while cherry pit, berry seed, and toasted nut notes add stimulating tartness, piquancy and an overall sense of energy. Lafage is convinced that its high quotient of Grenache makes for a wine best drunk within the next five years. I would anticipate at least that much stamina, though one certainly ought not to neglect this beauty in its youth."
