"Ripe and perfumed, this has almond, apple and baked-pear flavors that are layered with notes of nutmeg and pepper. It's a concentrated wine, with acidity that has become rounded. Made from a top Kamptal vineyard, this has the potential for aging further. Screwcap. -R.V."

"Heady floral perfume of a sort more likely in a Riesling is augmented in the nose of Hirsch's 2010 Gruner Veltliner Lamm by an attractively, sweetly resinous overtone I thought might be from acacia. The casks are oak, but as it turns out Hirsch has some acacia on order for future vintages. (A portion of the wine is as usual kept in tank.) Honeysuckle, narcissus, lily of the valley, heliotrope, lanolin, mint, and lime offer a nearly head-spinning aromatic display; then waft across a palate underlain by ore-like intensity of mineral matter and culminating in a saliva-inducing, saline savor. This will probably fill-out more in the middle and acquire a richer texture with just a bit more time, but already represents a striking, singular achievement and a Gruner Veltliner of a sort that you're unlikely to encounter from any other vintage."
