2003 trinitas contra costa mataro
"Now I know what you are thinking, why did Ian rate this California Mourvedre so high? (Mataro is better known as Mourvedre.) Well, for starters, this is a great example of what Mourvedre should taste like. It is very concentrated, with loads of bramble, tart black berry and black currants, but also has a leather and mineral note in the mid-palate, with a slightly, dry tannic finish. There is a fair amount of spice on the finish with a note of heat (the heat is why I gave it an 89). This is well made wine, and would be excellent with game."
