2004 rustenberg chardonnay five soldiers
"Pale yellow color. Highly nuanced nose combines subtle stone and soft citrus fruits, nutmeg, flowers, wet stone and vanillin oak. Rich, silky and full, with the piquant fruit flavors complicated by leesy, spicy and mineral nuances. As ripe, round and sexy as this is, it conveys an impression of weightlessness and energy. Finishes very long, with smoky oak and saline notes. An outstanding South African chardonnay. This vineyard, on decomposed granite and gravel, dates back to the early '80s, which winemaker Badenhorst describes as "very old for chardonnay in South Africa.""
"Has a nice, mature edge of butter and toast to go with its elegant pear, fig and kiwi fruit flavors. Long, suave finish holds your interest, with ripe fruit and minerality. Chardonnay. 480 cases made." -91 Points - Wine Spectator
