"In great vintages, Su Hua Newton makes a selection of the finest barrels called Epic, a Merlot-dominated wine. The unfiltered 2001 Epic could be mistaken for a Pomerol/St.-Emilion. Composty aromas of earth, licorice, black cherry liqueur, mocha, and cocoa along with a hint of white chocolate jump from the glass of this saturated ruby/purple-colored 2001. Attractive, medium to full-bodied, with good acidity and firm tannin, this still youthful Merlot needs 4-5 years of cellaring; it should keep for two decades."
