A little translation may be in order for this wine, put in terms that everyone can understand: Cantina Bolzano is producing a rosé of the Lagrein grape, from the Pischl vineyard, which is located in the Alto Adige in the northeast corner of Italy. Sometimes labels can be as confusing as a Werner Herzog film. Cantina Bolzano is a cooperative of 150 growers with an average holding of less than three acres per farmer. The vast majority of these growers make their entire living on farming, mostly from crops other than grapes. Lagrein is indigenous to the alpine area of Alto Adige, and typically produces incredibly dense, low acid, low tannin, inky wines when vinified on its own. As a rosato the wine is magnificently fresh, bursting at the seams with ripe raspberry and strawberry fruit. Bone dry yet juicy, this is a perfect summer rosé that you can pair with anything, seriously. Website
